Hello Everyone,

I submitted our family sponsorship Outland in January, last update was that they starting reading March 4. No changes since then. I trust it's a pretty strait forward file, I am in Canada, working same job for the last 2 years, we have 2 kids together. Does this appear to be a normal time frame?

well, it will help knowing what visa office your application is at. i've never heard the phrase "reading file" referenced before. where are you seeing this language? do you mean it's been "in process" since march 4?

I apologize for not being more specific.

The file is in Toronto. The Sponsorship Application is in process and when I verify the link it advises they started processing the application on March 4. Permanent Residence Application Status shows "application received".

17 months seems to be a long wait time from 1 year ago where I had friends approved within 8 months.

I am only trying to figure out if this file needs follow up or if I should be waiting, of course I understand every case is different and has it's own circumstances.

if your file is in toronto, then that would suggest it's an inland application, correct? Outland applications are not processed in Toronto. it is currently taking 16ish months for inland applications to JUST reach the AIP (approval in principal) stage. Inland is known to take 2+ years TOTAL.

the processing time is very different than outland applications that are processed in visa offices oustide of canada, so if your friends applied outland, you really can't compare your processing to theirs. if they were TOTALLY approved in 8 months inland, i find that hard to believe, and there would have to be more to that story.

If you applied inland, then i would recommend checking out the 2015 and 2016 inland applicant boards for a good idea of how the inland process works and long the wait is for your application to process.
