Hi All,

Need your help !!

In case of re-issuance of passport (India), Am I going to get new Passport number or the same one?

Also, will I be getting the US Visa stamp again on new passport?

Please suggest.

Thanks.

Yes, you will receive a new passport when you renew it.
Your existing valid Visa stamps must be found in the new passport. This is the responsibility of PSK or Indian Embassy (from wherever you apply).

New passport number.
The stamp will be in the old passport, if you can attach it to the new one, it should work out fine.

Dont you think it will create a mess in EE. As my US PCC and IELTS score card would contain Old passport number and everything else starts with new one.

Shall I go ahead with adding the spouse name/change of address after marriage? OR is it fine if I dont add any of them.

Send a CSE with the new passport number, and the bio pages of the new passport attached

I have not created any EE profile yet.

Before even doing so, just putting my thoughts.

CIC guys have been doing this their whole careers. They very well know about passport expiry and new passports and how to deduce the obvious. Just include a letter to make it more clear. Dont worry. Your visas will stay in old, just staple old passport to new one. That's how everyone does it around the world.

you mean I will be carrying 2 passports? Old and new??

will visa stamps not be transfered to new one automatically?

Visas are issued by foreign countries and are foreign government's documents. Indian passport officials cannot do anything to visas. They stay in the old passports. People carry all of their passports ever issued together as one. Remember, all of the passport, (old/new) numbers are stored in a database shared across all countries. Even if you lose a passport, that number stays in the database shared by all recognized countries. So dont throw away expired passport. Staple it with new one.

Visas will still be valid for the stated duration even if they are in the old passport. And they cannot be transferred to new passports automatically. You have to get new visas if/when they expire.

Well, last year, few of my colleagues got their passports renewed from Indian embassy and they found their existing valid visa stamped in the new passport.

Are you serious? Visas are issued by foreign countries. How can they take a visa pasted in a passport and put it in new passport? Canadian and US visa are pasted as visa stickers in passport, any tempering would void visas.

As I mentioned before, it was the Indian Embassy who took the responsibility of making sure that the new passport has the same stamp which was already there in the old passport. I have personally seen and checked it from my colleague.
I thought that this would be the default case during passport renewal.

Looks like visas of different countries have different processes during passport renewal. Some countries would require the individual to carry the old passport with the stamp in it while some require the concerned govt. authority to transfer the existing visa from old passport to new passport.
