Hello guys,

Can any expert or anyone answer or give me an opinion on this query?

@scylla, I am a new Canadian citizen and also just completed nursing school and landed my first hospital job one month ago. I wanted to send an invitation letter to a female childhood (best friend) for her and her 6-year-old son to visit Canada. She will be staying with my husband and I for her trip. I don't really have much funds in my checking account however I have a decent amount in my term deposit account. Can I use my term deposit as proof to say I will be funding their trip? Or is best to have actual live cash in my chequing account and if so how much would be a good estimate?

Finally, Is it better for me to invite her alone first, then after her first travel she can apply for her son?

Immigration wants to the applicants' funds instead (not you). Either or both your husband & you can invite them. There's no guarantee that they can travel together or her travel alone.

It is usually NOT recommended to submit an application just with your financial details and mentioning that you will be sponsoring the trip. If it was your parents, siblings, etc. you would have a stronger case. When it comes to friends, it is a very weak case. The officer will have concerns that your friend is not even financially strong to pay for her trip, so why will she return home after the trip? It just makes the case complicated and increases chances of refusal.

As for your other question, you cannot leave her son out. In her family details, she will need to mention that she has a son. There is no way the officer will believe that your friend is going to leave her 6-Year Old Son and come to Canada by herself. So in case you are applying, make sure to apply for both your friend and son.
