Re: FSW 2014 federal applicants Please consider yourselves LUCKY!

Please consider yourselves LUCKY!

For Quebec immigration, I heard that Visa offices are still dealing with 2012 applications. Can you imagine? Federal immigrants should consider themselves very lucky with even one year processing time.

I am September 2014 applicant.

I received the following message from PVO in response to my CSE.

''Please be advised that your application has been reviewed by an officer and is currently in the queue for correspondence and medical examination instructions to be sent to you.'' I received this email on the 14th of May 2015 and nothing came out until now.

What does it mean when they say '' currently in the queue..''

Please share your advice.

Finally landed in Canada (Toronto, Pearson airport) on 18th may 12:00 PM.

Procedure seems pretty straight forward.

1) Once you landed, you will proceed directly to the Immigration Center. They will check your Passport and Landing documents (COPR).

2) From there you will be forwarded to the newcomer section, where they will note down everything. It will take about 10-15 minutes. And also they will keep Copy of COPR (With Photo) and second copy will be attached to your passport for future reference. please keep this copy with you all the time as it will require for every single items.i.e SIN, Opening Bank account, Library card etc..I landed on Monday and it was holiday so i couldn't get SIN. Otherwise you will get your SIN only at airport. Also, officer will ask for the address where you are intended to stay. This is require for PR card.

3) Collect your luggage and at last they will ask you for any items to be followed. They didn't ask for B4 or any copy of that. But i have declared that i am carrying more than 10k CAD. So they just filled up one form and asked my son to stamp on it ;) ;) ;)

That's it. And one more point, if you are carrying more luggage, Porter will be there to help you but they will charge you $22 for their service and also have to pay the tip to Porter. I though it was free service and i had to pay $22 + Tip >:( >:(

Second Day:

I went to the Service Canada center for applying SIN for all of us. They will ask for passport and Landing documents. Enter the ZIP Code where you are staying and you will get list of nearby Service Canada Center.

On the same day, i opened the bank account with couple of banks. There are few deals going on in TD and RBC bank but understand the terms and condition for proceeding further.

Third Day:

Went to the library and got the library card instantly. Also, got the new SIM Card. I have got Micromax mobile from India and it is compatible with Fido and Chatr and it's working like a charm. I have asked the person and he said Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 will work fine as well. I am not sure about other mobile phones. The plan that i buy is for unlimited talking across Canada, 1GB of Data. And it cost me about $50 per month. More plans listed below.

http://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/MonthlyPlans?gclid=Cj0KEQjwhPaqBRDG2uiHzpKLi6ABEiQAk_XXibi4bBSKv66LP4kWPQOGiIGK7Meu71cC8sUbZvyhaggaAvSZ8P8HAQ

I am not sue everyone is aware about that but if you have a Child then please register at nearest center. So, you will get $500 Child Tax benefit every month. It will take about 2-3 months but money will be credited directly to your account. But once you get the job, amount will be decrease as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be happy to answer at my level best.

Just an update,
I have passed theory test today and got G1 driving licence.
One note: Please bring letter from RTO (Regional Traffic Office) India and soon after passing your G1 exam one should qualify for G exam directly, which will reduce the time-frame of nearly 1 year.

No, you CANNOT extend your visa validity. You must land or you will have to start over completely, according to whatever rules are in place at the time.

When you land you must show proof of funds the same as when you applied. You do not need to actually bring cash or monetary instruments with you, and you don't need to deposit anything or open a bank account right away if you don't want to. Please note that if you do bring more than $10K worth of cash or cash equivalents (such as demand draft or traveller's cheques) with you when you cross the border or land at the airport you must declare it to the customs officer. (This is at immigration, before you go to do your landing paperwork, and it is applicable to every time you enter Canada, not just if you are doing a landing.)

You can maintain residence so long as you stay in Canada for 2 out of every 5 years. If you want to renew your H1B and continue working in the USA for a while, no problem. Go do your landing before your visa expires then return to the US and then go back to Canada whenever you want. Just make sure that on the 5-year anniversary of your landing, you have stayed in Canada for at least 2 years. That is exactly 2 years worth of days (730) and not one day less! Otherwise you risk losing PR.

Good luck.

I guess it is 3 years under new rules....can we check

"Passport Request Letter" Mail received, but 4th Line not updated yet.. Should I be worried??

Hi Guys,

So I have received this email requesting for my Passport to be submitted to NDVO, but the Fourth Line has not yet been updated on my Application page. Is this normal procedure?

Is the passport requested only for the Stamping or could there be some other reasons too (something that i should worry about). Please advise.

Also, how many days would I be without my passport for? I might have an upcoming office visit to China lined up for Mid June, should I give my office a heads-up about my possible unavailability (since I might be without Passport for some days)

Hi Guys,

So I have received this email requesting for my Passport to be submitted to NDVO, but the Fourth Line has not yet been updated on my Application page. Is this normal procedure? This is normal, i received PPR first and then DM (4th line) next day. For others, They received DM first and then PPR.

Is the passport requested only for the Stamping or could there be some other reasons too (something that i should worry about). Please advise. Only one reason - Visa stamping and COPR

Also, how many days would I be without my passport for? I might have an upcoming office visit to China lined up for Mid June, should I give my office a heads-up about my possible unavailability (since I might be without Passport for some days) These days you should receive your passport back within 5 working days. However for few, it took around 11 - 15 working days. Plan your trip accordingly

Congratulations Buddy !!! :) :) :)

I guess the new rules have not yet been implemented. As per the below pages, It is still 2 years out of 5 years to keep PR status.
