Dear all,
Anybody is planning to move to Calgary (Alberta)??
Any idea about temporary accomodation for Indians?

From my past experience in Canada when I was a student there, few points that may help:

1) Get your driver's license certified as otherwise you may have to wait for 12 months before applying for G license after getting G1. http://settlement.org/ontario/daily-life/transportation/driver-s-licence/i-have-a-driver-s-licence-from-another-country-how-do-i-get-an-ontario-driver-s-licence/

Getting a driver's license should be your one of first steps as this will help you immensely in job hunting. Even many employers ask for a license.

2) Make sure that you keep immunization record for your children below 16 years of age as the information in it i.e. date of various immunizations is required when you apply for the health card.

3) The money you bring to Canada at a later stage i.e. on your subsequent visits is taxable by Canada Revenue Agency so it is best to bring as much as you can when you first land but make sure to declare it to the immigration officer at the airport

4) When you rent/buy a house and if you have young children then make sure that it is close to schools as it saves commutation time and children don't have to travel by bus.

Hope it will be of some help. More when anything else comes to mind. Good luck.

Thanks ASB,

could you please send the contact number if you have it.

Congrats on your MR. I have been requested to send copy of all pages of valid passport by mail or email. I did my medical on 12th May 2015 but have not received any information yet. Please keep me updated about your status.

Guys, I received MR along with the following document request from WVO. Can you please help:

-Police certificate(s) from India for your spouse and must include former name. (Now i know that the passport office doesnt write the former name on the PCC so what are they expecting here? Do i need to go the state where she stayed before marriage and procure this? Are there any other options?

Another question to those who had their files transferred to WVO......where do we courier the physical documents? NDVO or WVO office address:

MAILING ADDRESS:

Immigration Section
Embassy of Canada
ul. Piekna 2/8
00-482 Warszawa
Poland

Guys.... FYI

Tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada if you are carrying more than CDN $10,000. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

cash
securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills)
negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders)
