Dear Forum members,

I booked my tickets and I'm going to fly on January 19'th 2016. I'm going to land to Pearson International Airport (Toronto). I'm not so clear about the proof of funds that might be asked by the immigration officer while landing.
I don't have any other chance other than carrying cash with me. We are traveling three of us, so I need a minimum of CAD 18.150. On the other hand there is this obligation of customs to declare the amount if you are carrying more than CAD 10.000.
Can I carry less than CAD 10.000 and my wife carries the rest (not more than CAD 10.000)? Does this action have any implication with my landing?
I would appreciate your valuable experience and advice.

My dear friend...I can feel your excitement....My suggestion would be that you carry 1000 - 3000 CAD in cash and rest as Travelers cheque....Now since you are 2 adults...18000 for both of you equals to 9000 each and hence you need not worry about any declaration...My friend came couple of months back and he carried 19000 CAD (2000 as cash and remaining 17000 as TC)...once you are here...you can get ur account opened and deposit the TC...You may want to change the ratio of cash vs TC depending on ur needs....

Prices of some *New* cars regarded as the best for families in Canada. All these are considered better in Canadian weather conditions by Autofocus. We can get an idea for a second hand / pre-owned car from these prices and generally they start from as low as 5K to 6K. I haven't considered the high end luxury cars for this exercise.
Car is a must in Canada so we as new/prospective immigrants must set aside a budget for it. Off course, we can get the cheaper ones as well.
The range increases when additional features are added to the base price.

Ford Explorer -33K to 37K
Hyundai Tucson - 25K to 28K
Toyota Camry - 25K to 28K
Volkswagen Golf - 19K to 20K

My Canadian Story – A journey to share and inspire.

Hello Friends,
My name is Nitin Bhalla. Just like very body else, I also dreamt to come and start my life in Canada. I started preparing my application in May 2014 and was able to send it to CIC in August 2014. I used no consultants, as my only consultant and support was this forum.

I have no words for the kind of help and support all forumites have provided. I am sharing my journey and my insights on this forum to express how thankful I am and also to return the favour and contribute to anyone who may need assistance in searching a job or getting settled in Canada.

I am now to a certain extent settled with my family here, have a job (Full time) with Scotiabank.. I have also started counseling some newcomers for my settlement agency who want guidance in finding a job.

I landed in August 2015. Then started another journey, the journey to start a new life, find a home, find a job, create a social circle.. etc.. etc..First priorities were to get SIN, open a Bank account(coincidentally I applied for Scotia Start Right account from India itself and later got a job here ), get my Driver’s license , find a place to stay and so on.

I had no immediate or close family in Canada, so got registered with the nearest settlement agency in Brampton. They provide a workshop for newcomers and help you understand the job market, prepare a Canadian style resume and researching your job. But the real test comes after the workshop. I started applying for multiple jobs, tried CareerEdge for internship programs, attending mentoring events, got my business cards printed to share at meetup events, prepared job search strategy, researched linkedin. All these efforts still did not land me in a job.

I then started networking on Linkedin.. and it helped.. I will be happy to share my inputs in case anyone wants.. You never know what clicks, so I suggest we try every bit.. because failure is not an option. Feel free to connect with me. Just pm me for any query that you may have.

Thank you again for helping me.

All the Best…

Nitin

Hello Ppl

Thanks to the help from this forum, I am going to land in Canada with my family on Jan 15th.

I had a question regarding the need for health insurance for the first month or so after landing in Canada.

1. Do we need to take travel health insurance for a month or so? or does the permanent residence category help us somehow?

2. If we need travel insurance, what are some cost effective options available in India?

I have a family of 4 ( 2 adults and 2 small kids)

thanks

Dear rosser,

Health insurance depends on which area u going to reside ...all major cities in Canada are taking nearly three months to register you.

It's not a compulsion to take a external health insurance but to safeguard you in case of emergency you fall during that time...which u might end up paying huge some from your pocket.

Policy will depend upon your age, no of people, no of days and the amount u are taking for.
Check online with policybazaar or other few sites on the net .,.then u can decide yourself.

Take a cashless policy...which ever u take. Maximum u can take is 3 months from India.

thanks

Dear Friends,

I have received MR, PCC, RPRF & Additional Doc request few days back. I was originally SGVO August applicant and was almost giving up hope. But they trasferred my file to Manilla and got this sweet news finally. I really need some your expert guidance & suggestions on the following issues:

1. In additional docs, they requested Personal History and Addresses details from AUG2014 to present (They have provided me a Personal Address History form for this). Its the period after the submission of application and I am doing the same job in same position since then, so Do I need to submit any updated work experience letter with this as supporting document??
2. They also asked for, Details of activities during period of unemployment from SEP2008 to JUL2009 (How do I provide them this information? In the same Personal Adress History form or some other way?)
3. Referring to Number 2, I was unemployed and was looking for Job, did nothing else. So should I write "Job Search/Seeking" as my activity? Do I have to provide any supporting documents for that?
4. RPRF Fees - a.Is it ok If I do bank draft (Couldnt manage Credit card). b.Is it CAN 490 for single applicant? c.Since its Manilla VO, what will be the Beneficiary name for a bank draft?
5. They have given a courier address for sending original PCC. Should I send the original Bank Draft with with the PCC at the same address?
6. I have understood that only original documents i.e. PCC & bank draft needs to be sent via courier like DHL/FedEx. Other documents like additional docs whice have no originals should be sent via email. Am I correct??

This forum has been the source of all the support and help from the begining of my application. I wish everyone good news and good luck. Thank you very much.
