Hello,

I just extended my study permit as a bridging method to keep my status legal while I wait for my final marks and transcripts so I can apply for my post-grad work permit. Now I recieved this permit, and it expires Jul 30.

I have a ticket booked for NY, first week of June, and will return to canada withn a week. To apply TRV you need to do it outsie canada since they dont have any here, however i doubt it will be ready within 1 week of my stay in NY

Now from information sessions at school I have been told that you will not require a TRV if its only in the US you are traveling as long as I have a VALID studypermit and VALID passport, of which I have both at the time of my return to canada. My passport in unfortunately from a country requiring re-entry

Is this info correct? Coz I dont wanna go NY and not be able to come back for my graduation ceremony coz I needed a TRV but didnt get one coz I was told i didnt need one. Too late to apply for a TRV now, coz mailing it to the states will take too long.

I contacted the CIC/immigration office, and the officer said that I should have no issues and go forth wiith my short trip, since i have the valid permit and passport.

Im just paranoid, I just want to see if ppl know of this "exemption". I dont wanna miss my grad that i worked so hard for.

Yes it is correct as long as you only go to the US or St. Pierre et Miquelon, you could re-enter Canada up to July 30th.

Thank you for your reply. I feel much much better now :)

@PMM
hi. my case is almost the same as ofvgard, except im a temporary foreign worker here in canada, and my employer want me to go to chicago USA for one week training. recently i got my new work permit and the expiring date is on oct 2011. this is my third work permit so clearly my initial TRV have long been expired. do you think i should apply for a new TRV or i can consider myself TRV exempt since its only a short trip and as stated by ofvgard. im also from a country which need to have visa to re-enter canada.
hope you could help me understand my case/problem.
and if you could possibly give me the link so i can understand it fully
many thanks ang god bless you and your family

Hi,

I am getting into the same situation like yours, and I feel a bit worried if I still need to apply for a visa to re-enter Canada when returning back from the States.
I wanted to ensure about how it went with you, and if you were not asked for a visa when you returned back to Canada?

Thanks.....
