Two friends of mine are here in Canada on a 1 year open-work permit. When the work permit expires they plan to quit their jobs and travel around Canada and the US for a couple months before going back home to Slovakia.

Question:

- If they are already in Canada to they need to apply for a visitor visa/ tourist visa? Slovakia is a visa exempt counrty.

- If they drive down into the US will they have trouble getting back into Canada given the boarder officer will see that they have expired work permits?

- If you have a tourist visa can you leave and reenter canada on that visa? just to go down to the states for a couple days?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

1. They need to extend their status as visitors when their work permits expire. They apply to Vegreville http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend/visa.asp
2. No necessarily as long as they proof of funds and onward transportation outside Canada.
3. Visitor status ends when you exit Canada, each entry is a new entry/examination.
