The overstay would not affect a PR application. It might very well affect whether they let you in as a visitor.

So should i take a chance or not as its a 50/50 situation

That's up to you.

Why haven't you submitted a sponsorship app yet? And why did you not do it while you were in Canada for several years?

Does immigration know you overstayed? Were you deported?

If not, then you may not have a problem. However, for the future, if you plan to live in Canada, you should have your partner sponsor you for PR. Start filling out the sponsorship forms now and take them with you to Canada. If immigration asks, you can say that you are about to apply for sponsorship and show your forms.

Is there any way for the CIC to fins out whether somebody overstayed in Canada?

Possibly. If they have a entry for that person and then an entry from Canada to the US 2 years later, they would know that they were in Canada for 2 years. However, I do not know if they have instant access to US records or if they have to call for them. I have heard they have access to passenger lists as well but I also don't know if that is instant or if they have to ask. When you apply for a PR card renewal, they ask you to check a box to agree that immigration may access the CBSA info on you so that makes it sound like they do not have instant access.

Hi expert advisors;
I have a PR and did the landing last year with my family, and we flew back to where we work (It is hard to sacrifice everything all of the sudden as you know). how long is it ok to stay outside canada and What is the impact on our PRs and re-entry to canada if we exceeded this period?
