Re-entering Canada with a COPR and a visa-exent passport flying with Air Canada

Hi,

I am crossing the border to Niagara Falls and I want to take advantage to land with my brand new COPR. The possible issue is that I'm going on a bussiness trip for a month and a week right after that (which would be convenient to get my PR card right on time for when I'm back)

I have a question, though whether Air Canada will allow me to board the plane back to Canada if I travel with my COPR and my visa-exent passport if I do that.

Or maybe another question: I'm currently in Canada on a Work Permit which will still be valid when I come back. A question I have: may I maybe keep my current work permit and use it. They don't say anywhere that when you land you have to hand in your work permit, right? would that be a possibility if the first one doesn't work?

Does anyone have any experience with Air Canada?

AFAIK, Air Canada does not need to even know that you have your CoPR. As long as your passport is valid, and is from a visa exempt country, they will see you as just a visitor, coming to Canada. It's only CBSA, upon return to Canada, that will have any interest in your CoPR.

When you "land" as a PR, your work permit automatically becomes void. Any Canadian visas you may have in your passport are also automatically voided.

What I'm worried about is if they will let me board the plane without a return ticket. I don't need a visa to enter the country and, usually, as a visitor, they ask for a return ticket, am I not right?

That will be up to you to negotiate with the airline. It depends on their policies and is nothing to do with Canadian immigration.

And will immigration have any issues with it at Pearson airport? I assume I'm n the first person who needs to travel urgently after landing due to emergencies and with no time to apply for anything else...

Some people told me that having a via exempt passport is enough, but I wanted to make sure. Anyone have any idea?

Immigration after landing in Canada, doesn't need a physical PR card. Just your COPR and passport is enough.

It's when trying to board the airplane you could face an issue. It's not Air Canada in general you have to worry about, its Air Canada in the specific airport your boarding in. Some airport staff are more strict than others.

Sometimes they do want to see a return ticket to board. You can try telling them you intend to drive out of Canada as your exit later, and see if that will suffice. If they flat out refuse and insist you have a return ticket, just buy a fully refundable one on the spot and then cancel it right after.
