Re-entering canada from anywhere without a PR card or other valid visa/permit is not possible. Copr is not enough, you need your PR card. If you dont have one yet, you should apply for PRTD after leaving canada.

I was told by a cbsa agent that it is possible add long as you are entering in a private (i.e. Owned or rented out leased) vehicle through a land border. Am looking for people who have experienced this.

Thats fine. Posted you the official link showing requirements when driving back to canada. Its up to you if you want to risk following what people say. I would just follow whats written in black and white on CIC/CBSA websites.
