Re: Does putting an enquiry really delays your application

Hi there,

I am a Canadian citizen and applied for my parents and two brothers (currently in India) in June 2004. The file is now being processed in India since April 2007. In summer, I was in a family gathering and was told by someone that most of the files get processed within 14-16 months; therefore, I should put an enquiry in to see what's going on.

Hense, I put an enquiry in in May 2008 and got a reply back saying it might take upto 33 months for my family to get an interview (which I can see on CIC's website). But the people who I had put this enquiry through told me that if my family doesn't get an updates (an interview) within next 3-4 months we will put another enquiry in. As expected nothing happened and they put another enquiry in which resulted in a similar response saying nothing has changed since the previous enquiry.

Recently, I also heard that if you put an enquiry in before the deadline (33 months in my case) immigration officers might get irritated and delay your case even more.

Now, after this long story, my question is does it really happens that they delay your application if you put an enquiry in as that would be the last thing I would want to happen. Please let me know if you anything about this.

Thank you,

getting in touch is the best way to show your interestb in your application. sometimes due to backlog they tend to may be have missed your application. its good to read cic web and if you see any delays just ask them. i did ask them after i had put my application in 2oo5 then in 2007 march i emailed to ask how long more as there timeline was elapsing. they honestly said coz of backlog and immediately they sent med and police forms through. so its the same as using a lawyer it doesnt change anything

I am guessing that you are in Canada and your parents are in India. High Commission in New Delhi won't reply until the end of 33 months. Best thing at this time if you want to know what is going on with their (your parents') application, is to order CAIPS notes under information and privacy act. It will take 4-6 weeks after applying and will cost you $5.

Here is how to order CAIPS notes....

Here are the links to the two forms required.

Authority to release info form - Needs to be signed by principal applicant (your parents to give you authority to receive the CAIPS notes)
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm5475e.pdf

Form to order CAIPS
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/form-imm5563.asp

Make sure that you send only 2 forms and $5 cheque or money order, nothing else as requested to the following address...

Public Rights Administration
Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Narono Building
360 Laurier Avenue West, 10th floor
Ottawa, ON
K1A 1L1

Give you a bit of my background, my parents application has been submitted in New Delhi in March 2008 and I have recently ordered CAIPS as I noticed that some of the applications filed in Jan 2008 have received their meds in July 2008 and we haven't heard back for our apps yet.

This CAIPS report will be able to let you see all the notes and reviews done by IO in New Delhi on your parents application and what the hold up is if any. It also will show you when is your next bring forward dates is (i.e. when will they look at your apps again).

To see the progress at New Delhi CHC please see the following website.
http://www.trackitt.com/canada-immigration-trackers/family-class/

Just noticed on this website that one of the member just got his parents apps approved recently had filed in Sept 2007. I would strongly suggest that you get the CAIPS notes for your parents' application. And more importantly, ordering CAIPS will not have any impact on when and how they process the application at CHC New Delhi and won't delay the processing any further.

I also suggest you to register on trackitt and track your application there and share your time lines with others. It will help others the same way it would help you to compare timelines.

Thank you so much Martha and Bhooman. This information helps way more than putting an enquiry in.

Yes Bhooman, I am in Canada and my parents are in India. I have been here for nine years and have only seen my parents three times in these nine years. So like you know it gets pretty hard when you are trying to get them here and nothing is happening. Now I am going to order CAIPS notes just like you suggested.

Once I get the information from CAIPS notes I will share my timeline with others.

Thank you so much again. I greatly appreciate it!!

Thank you Leon. I will need those for sure.

I can't believe how helpful this forum is and I didn't even know anything about it. All I did until now was look at CIC website and wait for something to happen. And the last time processing times were updated on CIC website was September 26, 2007 which doesn't really tell what's going on now.

Thank you everybody for being so helpful. I really appreciate it.

Thank you Bhooman for this easy list to refer to.

I have a question about the first form that my parents are supposed to fill out. It says any dependent childern over 18 years must complete their own copy of this form. Both of my brothers are over 18 years old so do they fill out one copy each?

Thank you,

Just to be on safe side, while you are getting one from your parents, might as well get it from your brothers. If it is not required, it won't hurt that you have included them. But if it does require and you don't have it, they will send your application back without processing.

I have always been providing them more than they have asked for, and if it all, it had positive influence.

Yes, Bhooman. I printed three of them, one for my parents and two for my brothers, but just wanted to confirm before I send them. Have you received yours back or still waiting. Also have you only applied for your parents or any of your siblings are coming too.

Thank you,

To make it fast, if your parents have internet access have them print out the form and send it as scanned image. Make sure to print it on laser printer to maintain quality. I did it that way to cut the mailing time. I inquired about the report on Friday and they said that they had mailed it on Thursday. So I should be getting it this week. The application is just for my father only.
