Hello again,

We are filling out the RELATIONSHIP INFORMATION AND SPONSORSHIP EVALUATION imm5532 form, and ran into a question. In part C, question 7 they ask "Do your close friends, family and children know about your relationship?" and want us to list some of them. There are bunch of people that know about our relationship and we were wondering which ones are the most relevant since there are only 5 rows to fill out. We have been together for over 9 years now. Is it better to add the family members who knew about us the earliest or should we add friends who we only met a year ago.

I had the same question and here what my representative told me what kind of people are the best to list:

1. Must be Sober and reliable, and responsible in case of a quick phone interview. preferably CANADIAN PR or CITIZENS

2. People who see you two as a couple on daily basis:
eg. concierge desk/security staff in your building who know your names;
servers or barista in your neighbourhood who know you two as a couple for long time;
Neighbours or even dog moms/dads at park you meet everyday if you have a dog need to walk.
(I asked our security guy we greet to each other everyday for a letter, he even asked the building manager to write an official letter for us proving we have been living together for many years)

3. Close Friends or Relatives who took pictures with you and your spouse together at events.. You can even staple a picture on their reference letters. (eg pictures you attended your cousin's wedding as a couple, community events or pride parade you attended with other friends)

4. People who has credentials: A Family doctor/vet doctor that knows you two as a couple, or A Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) if you volunteered for him/her and make sure they know you very well (highly recommend this)

5. in our case, our friends know more about our family members. so we didn't bother to ask cousins to vouch for us. But I guess you can, as long as they know you very well.

We used 2 people in Canada and 2 back where I am emigrating from and one from the US. Both of us used a sibling and a best friend.

As mentioned, make sure they are reliable, know you both and talk to them before adding them so you have the correct details (Full names, dates they first met you)!

Good luck!

Close family and friends are best, regardless of how long they have known you.

Thank you to you all.
Is it fine to just include some pictures? They don't ask for any and I don't want to "annoy" them with extra information they didn't ask for. I am not really worried about them thinking that our relationship is not genuine because we have been living together for so long, are married and have three kids but I would obviously include pictures if that makes for a better case.

Follow the guide, there is a place to add pictures! Don't add more than is required.

Best of luck

I would say, have a big wedding, invite your friends and whole family, that would look good. After that to apply PR.

I listed parents and her parents and dates we met and then siblings. we all pretty much march each side of the family at once like her family one day mine the next sort of thing then added few friends of each. we added a few workmates and notable people like our family doctor and extends relations on an extra page.

I assume you have PR by now? If so, what was your timeline?

We added both sets of parents (minus my father since we are not really close), one good friend of each side and my partner's brother, who happens to live a minute away from us. We didn't add more. If they had needed more, we could have easily provided them with more.

Usually a good idea to just provide them with what they ask for.

I did not see that. I guess I will read through the guide again and otherwise I guess that we will just include pictures where it asks about adding any extra info that we wish to include that might help make our relationship genuine.

May I ask at what point you booked your flight? In your timeline I can see that there was only a month between PPR and landing. We are still writing our letter with proof that we really will move to Canada once the application has been approved, and we want to add a timeline. Our rental agreement has a three months termination period so I am wondering when the point is to decide that it is fine to cancel it, get a moving company and book flights.

Difficult to say. we had the option to live with family a few months before we left and entered Canada as a tourist while waiting for the copr to arrive. my family.sent it to me from my.hometown only book your flights after ppr if you are visa waiver and have someone in your home country to send your COPR after it arrives. if not visa waiver you will have to wait for copr to arrive before leaving. booking flights before a visa being issued is a big risk. no visa and you have to cancel tickets leaving you out of pocket for expensive airfares
