RCMP Request

Hi everyone.
I am an September 2013 applicant and I just received an RCMP request.
I am located in Ottawa and here is what I am planning to do.

1. Go to Ottawa police station.
2. Have them take my electronic fingerprints and send the request to RCMP.
3. Ask them to mail the certificate to me

I would prefer to receive the certificate myself and send it to CIC as opposed to
having RCMP send it, cause then I will never know if and when the certificate has been issued
and in general I try to rely on myself as much as possible.
Does anyone have any comments about this? I mean whether its preferable to send the
certificate on my own or have RCMP do it. In the RCMP certificate request letter from CIC, it says that they expect me
to send the certificate.
I was given a deadline of 60 days to submit the certificate and in general I want to get this done asap.
Is the way that I described (going to police station) the fastest way or should I go to a private agency?
If it is a fast way, why do a lot of people go to private agencies?
Can I expect the certificate to be done within a week if I go to police and submit electronic fingerprints?
Thank you

Hi

Since you asked for the fastest way, better go to the authorized finger printing agencies and get it done. Their turn around time is max of 9 days (72 hours) if you have a clean record.

But please wait for someone to answer if they received it within a week.

Why RCMP needs a fingerprint. Is it mandatory? i am curious.

I had it done for my wife(as she travelling back to my country_). RCMP haven't asked for finger print during RCMP check. If you need RCMP check for finger print its extra cost. if you get RCMP request from CIC its free(correct me if i am wrong), but i am not sure about finger prints. I got her RCMP record in 2 days.

check their website.

I'm not entirely sure you can have your fingerprints taken at the police station. There's an RCMP authorized fingerprinting service (I think called L1 Fingerprinting) next to the police station, the big one on Argyle close to Museum of Nature.

The only time police would take your fingerprint is when they charge you with something and want to process you.

lalithaditya215 yes, I am pretty sure fingerprints are mandatory. CIC sent me a link to the directions for getting the
RCMP certificate and the fingerprints are mentioned in this link
