Hello guys,

We just received a letter from CIC Manila and it states the following;

"Royal Canadian Mounted Police certificate for yourself (Please see the CIC web site for details on how to obtain police certificates from different countries: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/index.asp).

Note: if the original police certificate is not in English or French, you must include a translated copy."

I wasn't expecting to bump into another hurdle but my husband's visitor's visa is actually about to expire on Feb. 13th, 2014.
I am guessing that he has received the RCMP request letter because of his past criminal history in US.
But my question is.. is this a good sign or bad sign? If the CIC is requesting for his criminal record in Canada, does that mean he's in the clear?

FYI, the CIC has requested for RPRF receipt (we sent it about two months ago).
Also, our lawyer has indicated to us that we can do this electronically.
But I'm wondering how long it will take for the CIC Manila to receive the result and update our case.
I'm just hoping that he can receive his PR card before his extension expires :(

Lastly, when I check on the status of our case, I noticed that they updated it to the following;

1. We received your application for permanent residence on April 3, 2013.

2. We started processing your application on December 4, 2013.

3. Medical results have been received.

Is it normal that they just started processing our application now?
What would be the next update? And how long do you think it'll take for them to send him the passport request?

I would ask your question here:

However not sure anyone will be able to help since your situation is not typical.

We got a similar email when we got our PPR....it's most likely because your husband has spent enough time in Canada. (my wife was actually "living" with me for three years). If you have the means to get digital fingerprints done at a fingerprinting agency, you can usually get the RCMP check back in about a week and then you'll be off to the races.

As for the time lapse in the processing of your app....yeah, that's pretty normal. Don't read too much into it :)
