Just curious to understand the rationale behind points drop and new additions..

So last year the points stood in 470s and came down under 460. Why it came down particularly at that time?

Also is it a right assumption that score remained 470+ all the time due to 600 LMIA points and draw after draw, people kept getting added as the LMIAs (less skilled ones like cook etc) kept getting approved week after week?

Now that the points balance shifted to Masters students, is it possible that Masters students keep getting added to the draw at the same rate at which those LMIA workers were getting added? What is the graduation cycle in Canada? Do people graduate all year around? Which part of the year could see many students jumping in to the pool? Someone had Canadian education might have good idea on this.

Guys, a small help..Not related to our topic though.. My EE score along with my wife is at 463. Now that the CRS has breached the 470 mark i am hopeful for an ITA in the near future, God willing. My wife is pregnant and due in mid May. In the event of receiving an ITA in January and we delay our submission of docs for 3 months, it will still be April only with my wife's medicals not done as X-ray is not recommended during pregnancy. How do i tackle such a situation? Shouldn't i accept the ITA, submit all docs including my medicals but except my wife's medicals but supported by a Letter Of Explanation as to why the x-ray was not taken for my wife?? Then post delivery i shall submit my wife's medicals to IRCC..How is IRCC going to evaluate my case?? Any idea peeps...Thanks

People don't graduate from the University every 2-weeks. Relax and wait for your turn to get an Ita !¡

Can someone explain me this logic: The government of Canada doesn't want people to use the study visa as a backdoor for immigration. That's why the immigration office wants to make sure that international students return to their home countries when the visa expires. So when you for example cannot prove that studying abroad makes sense for your career at home or the immigration officer finds you are not well settled in your home country then your study visa could be rejected. In other words when they have the feeling you want to use your study visa as a first step for immigration you can get rejected.
At the same time international students are now granted extra points within the express entry pool to make it easier for them when seeking PR. So that said, to me it is obvious that many people will use studying as a backdoor for immigration because you will be granted extra points after graduation.
So how does it make sense to reject study visas if they have the feeling you want to immigrate to Canada but at the same time actually incentive people to use studying as a backdoor for immigration by giving extra points under express entry when graduating?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the recent changes and I think it is fair that international students receive extra points! Just thought this whole thing is a bit contradictory.

Kearnixer you are spot on. It would be interesting to see if there have been fewer study visa rejections in recent years or if this is being used as a preliminary portal for selection of EE candidates.

@ Kearnixer:

Canada as many other developed countries (Australia, UK, etc), use their educational system for revenue for their countries, meaning it is a business. The competition is very high between the top 10 countries, that every country provide different incentives for international students to go there.

Canada had always made it clear that by studying you would have a chance to get PR, i.e. settle down and start a life.
Hence the new changes as well. Every couple of years they make new changes towards this route, because of the high competition.
This business is so profitable that I wouldn't go further into explaining as this is not the right place for it.

Having said that, at the same time, Canada puts rules to follow them, therefore yes of course, when you submit your Study permit and have an interview with the VO, you can't just say oh by the way I am going to study and never leave.
The same goes to Visitor visas and Worker visas etc.

The point is, in Canada things are simple, if you apply for a Study, your goal is to study, period. No need to think more or explain more, now if after you study you want to change your plans, then yes there is 1000 ways to do it, every province has special programs for students.

Once you are in Canada there are many ways to get PR, through different programs. For example many come here with 1-2 years visa as workers then they apply for CEC.
At the same time, many come here for 1 year work permit, they go to the border to renew for another year, and when asked by VO, they say they are planning to apply for PR and they get rejected.!!!

Why:
because as I said above, the plans in your head should stay in your head only. If you apply for anything you make sure you follow guidelines and make your case strong.

I remember a guy when he was asked in the airport (before getting his 1 yr work permit issued), how long he plans to stay, he said:
well my permit is for 1 year, however I would probably leave before that, because I want to go back home and start my own business.
This guy now has citizenship.

So my point is:
The answer to your thoughts is YES and NO.
