No, it is not.Ok lets say the account is joint with the spouse.
Is it fine even if the spouse doesnt come along ?

The funds should be in the name of people who are coming to Canada. When spouse is accompanying, a joint account does not need any explanation as it is readily accessible by the primary applicant. But an account in the name of spouse has to be surrendered to the primary applicant. In other words, the applicant should be able to have full access over their spouse's bank account and balance.
If one is going alone, spouse not accompanied, all funds should be available in an account in the applicant's name.
Also, the funds should amount to the same value as if whole family is coming.
