rant: can this process take any longer? i hate canada post.

I've been living with my fiance for almost 3 years now, and it has taken us that long to try to get his PR card.... with no help from immigration canada in the beginning, who kept giving us the absolute wrong methods of doing things. first, we started out with the wrong application. then his criminal records were lost in the mail after misinformation from IC, forcing us to redo them which wasted SO many months. when we were finally able to complete the application and send it last august we thought the worries would be gone. FINALLY after checking the IC website for an updated status earlier this month it said that a decision had been made and we would be contacted. FINALLY!!! We were so happy. So they mailed out the info. and then CANADA POST DECIDES TO STRIKE. So here we are, still waiting and unsure about our future nearly 3 years later. I just can't believe that when we were finally set to get our decision, something like this happens which forces us to wait even longer. and reading stories here about people getting theirs in like 2 months really upsets me. what's even more annoying is the fact that he only lived across the border from me. A three hour drive. that's as close to nearly being Canadian as you can get. Sorry, i just had to rant... I am a very frustrated girl right now who just wants to be sure of my future with my fiance.

I do think you gotta look at this as a glass half full kinda thing. No doubt that the postal workers don't give a damn about what you are going through it's just business to them. But being only three hours apart is HUGE plus compared to so many that not only live ten times farther away also don't have the time or resources to make the trip very often.. so as tough as it is to be so close to the finish line think about how far you've come and take comfort in the fact that you are in the very very final stretch..

I think the embassies have internal mail, so no need to rely on normal mail.

They have a government courier. They do not rely on public postal service. As well it is accompanied to the VO by a government employee.

I couldn't let this go uncommented upon. The postal workers were really trying to be as considerate as possible with their strikes, they were doing rolling strikes and only not delivering the mail once or twice a week in each city. This is about as considerate as you can get. They knew people rely on the mail for their livelihood. It was CANADA POST that locked out the workers and shut down mail delivery all together. In reality, it was a brilliant move by them, because they knew that most people would only remember that there was a strike on and blame the union for the undelivered mail and not remember the small nuance of the fact that it's not actually the union who is responsible for the undelivered mail.

Most of us understand that. But it does not make the pain of being separated from our loved ones for days and weeks longer than necessary any less.

Bottom line. The entire situation sucks! :'(

Totally understand your pain and frustration. This is the only website where you would find people who are going through the same process and will understand what its like. Imagine what it would be like to live APART from your spouse and waiting for PR process to finish since Jan 2010, yep thats my case! I sponsored my wife in January 2010, it has been yr and a half and still waiting for her VISA.

If you guys don't know already, mail should resume service tomorrow (Tuesday) thanks to the back-to-work order from the government passed over the weekend, with postal workers returning to work today to sort through all the mail that has accumulated during the strike. Once sorting is completed, they should be able to get distribution started (first in, first out approach) as early as Tuesday afternoon.
