o my husband and I are about to turn in our application :) ;) :D and I'm returning to the states the second week of April :( :'( I hope to return in August (5 months after we have turned in the application)...usually I return and stay for 2-3 months but my husband is optimistic ;D and thinks that our sponsorship could take as little as 6 months (cuz we're applying Outland, I'm american, he's Canadian..we have a lot of evidence)..maybe but I doubt it...it will probably take 6 to 9 months...hopefully not longer...I want to have my PR for Christmas lol

Our concern is what if I am visiting in Canada when I get a request for my passport????

Do I rush back to the states and send it in? I'm from central Texas, my husband is from Toronto, its a far distance...

As any been in that situation before?

Should I buy an open ticket? should I buy a one-way ticket in case, and buy the return ticket later? Should I make my visit shorter than usual?

Any advice would be most helpful....

I'm not sure, but since Americans are visa-exempt, I don't think you'd have to send your passport. Anyway, if you're in Toronto when you get your COPR, you can just drive down to the border and re-enter Canada.

really? that would be great....we were under the impression that they request for your passport as one of the final steps...

You won't have to submit your passport since you are visa exempt.

You may still get a 'passport request', but for US citizens that just means a photocopy of the pages in your passport. If you look at the CPP-Ottawa thread it seems that recently people are just getting the ecas changed to decision made and their confirmation of permanent residency (COPR) in the mail without any sort of passport request at all :)
