Hoping someone can help me with this. My husband and I are going home to England for a visit in a few days. My question is because we are family to we have to go to the custom officer together like here in Canada? The reason I ask is because in England there are 2 different sections to go through. 1 for all EU nationalities and 1 for all others. So my question is would I go with my husband in the EU line or by myself in the other? ???

I assume you are referring to the UK border which is staffed by immigration officers? Where you present your passport for inspection and stamping? The customs officers are different: you meet them later on and there everyone goes through together without differentiating between UK citizens and others. At the border there are two lines, one for UK and European Union nationals and the other for foreigners, including Canadians. If your husband is an UK citizen he goes through the UK and EU line, and if you are Canadian you go through the other line. It does not matter that you are members of the same family.

Yes that is what i was referring to. Thanks so much for the reply :)

Actually, you can do both. My wife (Canadian) has been told many times that she can go through the UK channel with me (British) at Heathrow and Gatwick. So, you can choose as long as you are together. My wife is now a dual citizen anyway, so we have never to worry about this again :-) The only thing is that the IO sometimes had to go and grab a stamp for her passport, as they don't usually have one at the EU/UK desks :-)

Oh great thank you!!!! If I am allowed to go through the UK one I will definitely do that because it is much quicker!!! Thanks very much :D

You should confirm this with the staff at the entrance to Passport Control, just in case they have changed the rules (again).

Ok will do!!! thanks

My husband is British and I am Canadian.

We travelled to England in July before we were married with my two children and we all went through the UK line together with no issues.

Perfect! Thanks Becki :)

Your husband can stick with you in the All other Passport line. There is nothing wrong with that at all. But the Immigration officer might not be the happiest if you were to go into the EU passport line.

Cheers!

As you can see from the previous replies, it's not a problem.
