Hi...
My baby was born in the US. However, we will be returning to Canada soon. (maybe in 1 month)
We are both born Canadian. (Both parents are born Canadian)

According to the CIC website, it will take 5 months processing.

What is the fastest method to apply for Canadian citizenship for my baby.

Apply at a Canadian embassy in the US or apply inbound here in Canada. (appoint my sister as representative apply in bound)
Please assist... which method will be the fast.

I want the baby to have OHIP coverage as soon as possible upon his return to Canada.

Thank you for time in reading this.

Thanks

Those living in US are sending their citizenship certificate application to directly to Canada Sydney CIC Office. You don't submit an application to Canadian Embassy.

You can submit a urgent request on behalf of your baby.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/urgent-proof.asp

Applying for OHIP, I think, qualifies for urgent request.

Depending on age of baby, baby does not have to wait 3 months to get OHIP coverage. There is an unwritten policy that allow babies 6-7 months old to get immediate OHIP coverage. I discovered this when I applied for OHIP for my two children. The youngest was 5 months old and gotten OHIP coverage right away. Unlike myself and my 1 year old, we had to wait 3 months before coverage begins.

BTW: The baby will require a Canadian Passport if you are flying into Canada. The baby cannot use US passport to enter.

However you can bypass this requirement by driving across the border by car. US Birth certificates are acceptable form of ID to enter Canada.

Thank you for the quick reply.

If we were to drive to Canada, then a US passport will do?

The baby is 7 months only. I have asked by doctor for a letter.

However, the tricky part is all my proof of citizenship is back home in Canada.

Is it better if I get a representative to mail in the request. (inbound)

Thanks,

Thanks,
I am not 100% sure if Canada will accept a US passport at the land border crossing. Perhaps they will. If they don't, US birth certificate is an acceptable ID to use to enter Canada. I have used US birth certificates for my kids entering into Canada without any issues through land border crossings. Right now, my kids US passports are expired. As long as we enter US using US birth certificates by land crossing, we won't have any problems. Once we have to fly into US, then it becomes a problem as US passports are the only form of ID they can use.
