Hey guys.

i got my permanent resident status in 2013 i landed and stayed there for one yr after that i returned back home and couldn't return back these years. since i want to retain my status i would like to come back to canada to stay there for a year.

Now the question is, should i take any medical examination to visit canada or just bringing my pr card enough? Please help.

Thanks.

You are only required to spend 730 days within each rolling 5-year period in Canada, to maintain the residency Obligation.

It sounds like you are pretty close to the limit of 2190 days abroad, so when you return you'll need too stay for longer than one year, to reach the 730 days.

No need for the medical exam, since you are a PR.

Thank you so much for your reply. yes my pr validity will exist till end of 2018. i can stay more than a year not a problem.

so while entering toronto airport at immigration, they will ask only my pr card and my home country passport. nothing else right?

Correct. Valid passport and your valid PR Card.

Just to clarify, it is only your PR Card itself that expires in 2018, not your PR status. Even if a person has not met the RO, they are still a PR of Canada and have the right to enter Canada. However, those that have not met the RO are usually reported for non-compliance and eventually lose their PR, but that takes a bit of time.

Keep in mind that after the first 5 years, the RO obligation is a rolling 5 years. So you need to have 730 days at anytime. If you stay for a year and leave, you may no longer be in compliance as the time you spent here in 2013 will have dropped off. The next time you return after 2018, you may be faced with being reported for not meeting RO.

What specific days did you land as a PR in 2013, and then leave in 2014?

hi Guys,
How often people get reported at the border for not meeting the residency obligations
(I am not asking abut the 2 out of 5 rule)

I am just asking if someone heard any stories about people getting trouble at the border for the above reason
and what is the best way to deal with it

There are no statistics available as to how often people are reported for failing to meet RO.

If you are reported, you will have to appear at a hearing to argue why you should be allowed to keep your status. To be successful at this hearing, you'll need to present a strong argument for why you were forced to remain outside of Canada and were unable to meet RO.
