Questions regarding to Job Duties

Hi everyone

I started a job at a really small accounting firm in April with $13 per hour, at least 32 hours per week. The firm is pretty small with only 5 employees including the boss. The office is built at the boss big house. No benefits offered. The duties I am doing is exactly what list on NOC 1311.

Today I got a job offer at a medium size company with a job title of Accounting Clerk. 40 hours per week and 30,000 per year. the job duties are below

Prepare general ledger and journal entry.
Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Processing of Vendor invoices and expense reports.
Assist with reconciliation of supplier and inter-company Accounts Payable balances
Assist in processing weekly check runs and mailing checks to suppliers.
Update and retrieve financial data.
Examine financial records and transactions; ensure accuracy and compliance to accounting standards, procedures and internal control.
Develop and maintain cost findings, reporting and internal control procedure
Perform clerical duties; such as maintain filing & record systems, perform general office duties

It seems like more Accounts Payable and Receivable. I have asked if they can modify my job duties on the employment letter.

I have couple of concerns
1. Should keep my current job or take the new offer?
2. Is that ok the office is located at the boss's house?
3. Would $13 be to low to compete with others who have higher wages with same job ?
3. My current boss will issue the employment letter for my immigration, but he keeps ask if I am going to quit once I get my PR. so I guess if i change my job during the year, I wouldnt be able to get the employment letter from him as he will get pissed off. If he refuses to provide employment letter, is that means I can not use the experience there for CEC purpose ?
4. Prior to my current job I made 42K per year, around $23 as payroll analyst. Will this big change on my salary ($23 to$13) affect my CEC application ?

I hope you guys can help me out. I have waste one year on my work permit, because I work as a payroll analyst at a large corporation and realized payroll is not qualified.

Best Regards

Thanks

Do you have the 1 yr of experience under current job?
1) and 3): You should definitely claim the experience under NOC 1311 if you have the 1 yr and if your duties are aligned. I feel like you should get the employment letter from him before you leave or else it may delay your process of obtaining all the documents if you know it would be hard to get the letter once you leave. Just keep him on your good books until you can get your PR to be on the safe side.
There are ways around claiming the experience such as notarizing the letter from colleagues and writing in your letter of explanation that your manager is refusing to give you the letter etc. But you may find that as an extra battle and risk. A 4-6 month wait is better than going through the uncertainty dilemma.
2) No that is not an issue as long as you provide full address of work location on employment letter
4) Wage is not a huge concern for CIC. I think you are in the ball park of a bookkeeper salary ($20-$35K). Correct me if im wrong!
5) Your prior salary should have no impact on current because you are not claiming NOC experience for previous roll.

Accounts payable is NOC 1431, same as accounting clerk, and unfortunately not eligible. Did you have a different NOC in mind?

I have couple of concerns
1. Should keep my current job or take the new offer?
Can't help you there. There are pros and cons to staying/leaving. The most worrisome thing is that you fear retaliation from your boss - that tells me it is not a good job.

2. Is that ok the office is located at the boss's house?
Depends. IRCC will probably flag it. If they do, they will ask for proof that the business exists, such as a business license, articles of incorporation, documentation showing that the business is run out of the home... As long as you can provide those things, it should be OK, but you've already stated that you fear your boss might not cooperate...

No letter? It means that if you try to use the experience, and cannot provide a lot of supporting documentation (and you would have to rely on your boss to tell the truth if IRCC calls him), then there is a good chance that IRCC will not accept the experience.

4. Prior to my current job I made 42K per year, around $23 as payroll analyst. Will this big change on my salary ($23 to$13) affect my CEC application ?
No.

Hi, thank you for answering. No i dont have 1 yr experience. I just left my payroll job and got this new job at this small accounting firm 2 weeks ago. But yesterday i got another job offer from another company, but the duties seems a bit dangerous, so I am thinking if i should decline. And my current boss at the small firm is willing to help me to get PR, but he does not want me to take advantage of him for PR and then quit after i get my PR. Because he only can give me 32 hours per week with $13 per hour, I am just a bit worried if this is safe job to get PR? The duties on this position is really matching on NOC 1311 tho. If this is safe i will keep good relationship with him until i apply my PR. Could you please give me some advise ?

Yes it is not a good place to stay for long, but it is a good place to learn and the duties I am doing is so match on NOC 1311. the only problem is the he only can provide me 32 hours a week with $13. And he does not want me to take advantage of him for my PR. He wants me to stay after he helps me to get PR. So if the job is safe for me to get PR I would like to keep a good relationship with him until I get my PR. I just want to be secured, because I have wasted 10 months on my previous payroll position.

I tend to agree about the duties/NOC being "dangerous" .

And my current boss at the small firm is willing to help me to get PR, but he does not want me to take advantage of him for PR and then quit after i get my PR.
Understandable. But given that it is home-based, does the company have a website? This could make a difference in convincing IRCC that it is legit. Also, do you like the work enough to stay 1-2 years?

Because he only can give me 32 hours per week with $13 per hour,
That is within the published range of the occupation, I would not worry about the wage (apart from being able to afford to live on that).

Again, is there a website? Does he have a license? etc. because it is so small, there is a chance you would be asked to obtain documents from him that proves it's a legit business....

It merely covers my living expense now and no money left ToT. I just moved to Toronto tho. if I didnt waste 10 months of my work permit I would take my time to find a better job. Since I only have 2 years and 2 months left I dont have too many choices :( I dont know if I should keep looking for other opportunities with the limit time left.

The company is legal and have been operated over 25 years. I think CIC wont google the address and find out that is a house ? The clients are old clients and it seems he doesnt have the ambition to grow more clients. I just got my first pay stub and it seems the pay stub is pretty normal. the company does not have official website but will advertise on online yellow book. And the boss told me he help another international student before to get PR. he is no longer work here and it seems that was before Express Entry was applied.

LOL, I believe you, but IRCC cannot simply take your word for it : )

I have seen exactly this happen in a few cases, and people refused for this (likely it was not the only reason, it was part of it... )

Well, that's something, at least.
