Good day!

We are in the process of work permit right now for my dad and are expecting to move to Salmon Arm, BC before the year ends, hopefully. We are aware that finding an apartment there is difficult. My family and I are wondering if we will be able to find an apartment there, or if is it allowed and possible to stay and live in a different city close to Salmon Arm like Vernon, Arm strong, etc.?

Another thing is I am a grade 11 student here in my home country and am in the last semester. I am wondering if it's possible if I can continue my studies there in Canada for Grade 12 which will mean I will stop my studies here for the upcoming school year? Is that allowed? I will only turn 18 next year.

Also, the consultant said my sibling and I will be under tourist visas. We are dependants. However, according to canada.ca, "Minor children already in Canada are authorized to study without a study permit at the pre-school, primary or secondary". So how about when I enter college? I need to obtain a study permit, right? So does that mean I will have a separate application for PR or does it not affect me because I'm still under 21?

Please bear with my multiple questions and feel free to answer what you can answer.

Thank you so much!

1. You can stay where ever you like.
2. Yes you can attend grade 12 in Canada.
3. To enter College you will need a study permit, note that you will be probably paying international fees.

You will want a study permit for Grade 12 too. For college/university, you will need a study permit plus need to pay international fees (pay first year tuition plus minimum $10k in funds so estimate $25K). You menton PR but father coming on a work permit. Which is it?

Thank you for your response. What are the advantages of having student permit when I am G12 there? Will the permit be used until college?

Yes, my father will be on working permit but I am just curious on the time the PR application will start after a year or more after my father worked. Because initially we heard obtaining PR in BC is difficult and are worried if I passed my age of 21 because the consultant said I should have my own application. But if I am still under 21 and will enter college with student permit, it won't affect our PR process right? That's what I want to ask.

But as much as possible, I would like to work immediately. Now that leaves me to a thought, if how about after I finish G12 and we are already permanent residents, I can start working right? No need to obtain any permits. It would be a less hassle to start college when we are already PR?

Being that you are in Grade 12, you really should have a study permit. For post secondary, you will need to gain admission, and show you can afford your studies as well as ties to home country. No impact on your father’s PR application.

You can’t work at all if a high school student. You can’t work until you are PR or once you are in post secondary with an approved study permit. You can’t work while In high school (on visitor or study permit for high school) as you are in n Canada because of your dad’s work permit.
