Hello Everyone,

I have a two pronged question:
1. My degree is in Hospitality and Tourism Management but I've been an ESL teacher in Japan for 4&1/2 years, but I don't have a degree in Education. Can I still apply under the NOC?

2. I work for the Government of Japan, and I have asked for a reference letter stating my duties, they keep giving me the same letter that states 3 broad duties.
- To foster students' practical communication abilities
- To help improve students' international understanding.
- To carry out any duties related to the aforementioned as specified by the Supervisor.

What do I do? Is this sufficient for my Express Entry application?

Here are the duties listed for that NOC:
  • Secondary school teachers perform some or all of the following duties:
  • Prepare subject material for presentation to students according to an approved curriculum
  • Teach students using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations, and laboratory, shop and field studies
  • Assign and correct homework
  • Prepare, administer and correct tests
  • Evaluate progress, determine individual needs of students and discuss results with parents and school officials
  • Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
  • May teach and evaluate students through distance or online courses
  • May advise students on course selection and on vocational and personal matters
  • May supervise student teachers.
  • Secondary school teachers may specialize in such areas as mathematics, English, French, special education or second language instruction. Secondary school teachers of vocational and trades subjects may specialize in areas such as hairdressing or auto mechanics.

1. Yes you can claim this experience.
Work experience points are based on your reference letter and authenticity of the work and your education points are completely based on your ECA report (for non Canadian degree).

2. You should write the detailed duties on a plain paper and get it signed by any higher/similar position colleague. Then notarize this letter and submit along with your standard company letterhead letter and payslips. You can write a letter of explanation regarding the reason fot not getting the detailed letter on company letterhead.

Many applicants have successfully done this already.

Good Luck.
