Dear friends, I am due to submit my application January 2015 (late) so for now, am gathering all the details and evidence.

I am new here though I've read most your posts extensively and I hope you forgive me in advance if my preceding questions have already been addressed.

Proof of language - Question 1:

I have taken some post-secondary school college courses years ago in the U.S though I never completed/graduated. I have the transcripts that show the classes that I took which include English, Math e.t.c. and have the college transcripts as proof that I attended those classes at said college. I DO NOT INTEND TO SUBMIT THIS as proof or English.

- I also have an original full grade 12 (secondary school) certificate which was obtained outside of Canada. The certificate is in English, the school curriculum is ALL taught in English. My native country's Official Language is English too. I intend on just using my high certificate as proof of English language. My question is simply, do I need a letter from my foreign high school to support my certificate as proof of language if the certificate is already in English?

IDs - Question 2:

on CIC site I quote: "5. Two (2) pieces of personal identification
Both pieces of identification should show your name and date of birth, one of which must have your photo on it."

I live in Ontario and my Health card has a picture. My question is simply, if I use my passport bio pages, Ontario DL and Health card front and back copies, will this be alright :-\? This maybe a no-brainer but I guess I just need to hear from the folks who have applied from Ontario and what they used for IDs.

Thanks. :)

Here is the link:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002ETOC.asp

Proof of completion of a secondary or post-secondary program conducted in French or English, either in Canada or abroad, includes:
A diploma or transcripts from a secondary or post-secondary school indicating the successful completion of a program, in French or English, either in Canada or abroad. or
A diploma or certificate from a secondary or post-secondary school indicating successful graduation from a program conducted in French or English, either in Canada or abroad.
Note: You must have successfully finished a secondary or post-secondary program in English or French. A single course done in English or French does not meet the requirement. If the original document is in a language other than English or French then you must also include a letter from the academic institution indicating that the language of instruction was in English or French along with an official translation of the original document.

Only completed courses are accepted.

If you would like to use your secondary education documents, the medium of instruction should be english. Secondary education is usually from 8th Grade to 12th Grade. Would you be able to get your secondary education's documents and english medium letter from your school?
What is your native country?

Yes I know that only completed courses are accepted. I did my grade 8 to 12 in my native country of Zambia. English is the official language and as I stated already, the medium of instruction is and has always been English and I do have my original HS Certificate awarded at completion of grade 12 which is clearly in English. So do you think I will still need to get a letter from my former High School to prove that English was the medium used just because the certificate was obtained outside Canada? It may be a challenge logistically, if I have to. Thanks

Ad 1: your diploma has to state that the subjects were in English (it doesn't matter that the diploma is in English). If it doesn't, you will need an official letter.

Ad 2: Health card and DL are fine. Make sure you have a current address on your DL.

Its suggested to obtain a letter from the school stating that the language of instruction was english. Even though the certificate was printed in english, it does not mean that the language of instruction was also in english. If the HS certificate states "ENGLISH MEDIUM" then you would be fine.
There are chances of return of the application but sometimes they accept it.
Else do CELPIP - LS (not academic version) course which is around $175+tax and it will serve the purpose.

Do you have original transcripts of your secondary education? You may send copies of trancripts along with copies of your diploma and certificate. Together they will show that you completed high school and the language of instruction was English (assuming that all subjects on the transcript are listed in english)

to play safe, you can also take one of the approved tests available here in Canada.

TOEFL and IELTS are ok right?
If you have a copy of IELTS that you took for your PR, it will do (even if it's expired). Good luck!

Thank you. I just don't understand CIC on this one. Who has a diploma or certificate that empathically states that the subjects were in English? But I do get your point though. it's CIC that makes these requirements so we have no choice but to abide and provide what they ask for. I will rather see if I can get a letter rather than paying for the other test. It's pointless for me anyway.
Yes, I will definitely use my HC and DL and have updated address. No worries there.

I have original certificate and not transcripts of my secondary education. If the tests didn't cost so much, I would take it here in Canada but I am not willing to part with almost 200 bucks for some test. I will take the risk of obtaining a letter from my high school. Thank you for your response.

Fortunately, I never had to take any of the English tests for my PR. I had my high school diploma and also my college transcripts which CIC gladly accepted. Thanks again.
