Hi guys! I just want to ask if its necessary to study again upon reaching canada? The profession of my wife is non regulated, she is working in a financial services (not accountant).. If we're gonna make it to canada, She is planning to get a diploma then find a job afterwards.
Do u think it should be ok? Or no need to study again since it's non regulated.
If for employment purposes, does she need to take ielts also? For employers, do they look for ielts results?

Thank u for your advice and comments!

Employers do not ask for IELTS, they still look for good proficiency in communication in english.
It is not necessary to study further, in case one find difficult to get job then it is better to get some canadian education/ co op experience.

Thank you so much for the reply. It has been a great info to us. :)

@rawaljignesh
We have checked the link. As well as the csc, maybe we we will read thoroughly cos some info in the csc website are confusing. I can see that she can work in the bank if she had this certificate? But mainly focuses on investments only? Or any junior level/starting position will do? Like loan processor, etc.. Sorry bro if i have lots of questions, but we will researched for it tonight.

Thanks again.

The CSC is for specific types of bank and other financial services company employees who handle investments or work in the investment field. The CSC is certainly not a requirement for all bank staff. However many bank staff do end up taking this course since it only requires an exam and maybe an assignment (no classes) and looks good on their resumes. If your wife is looking for a junior level / starting position at a bank, then taking the CSC might still be a good idea since it will increase her chances of being hired into a junior level / starting position in the investment division of the bank (e.g. back office clearing officer, client account officer, etc.). In other words, having the CSC will increase the opportunities available to her.

FYI - I have worked in Canadian banking for 15 years with two of the large Canadian banks. For part of my career I worked in the investment division of one bank and I took my CSC well over 10 years ago. If you have any other questions, please post them here.

Wow thanks scylla! :) If she's interested to pursue the exam, Is there a requirement, like she should have a work experience or currently employed in the bank? Cos she only have 2 years experience in the bank and the rest were more on Accounts Payable and Consulting.

Now its clear, that having CSC, will open her to any jobs in the bank not necessarily in investment? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Another question, what is the starting position in the investment division in Canadian Banks? i hope she will have the edge if ever, because i read that it's hard to find a job in the bank as they prioritized the new graduates.

Thanks so much for the info and for your time. I am hoping that we can make it to Canada. :D

Anyone can take the CSC. It doesn't matter what they have studied in the past or if/where they are working.

The CSC will help open doors to many different divisions in the bank. The investment division is one of them. Bank branches also see the CSC as a good designation for people to have.

There are many many different types of starting positions in the investment arm of any of the big banks. Everything from back office jobs where you are processing paperwork to sales assistants where you assist advisers.

Doing CSC is no gurantee to get a job in a bank these days. There are more than 140000 people in canada who are unemployed despite doing CSC. It expires in 2 years also and one have to do it again. By doing CSC it means that one can sell mutual funds/ investments, loan/ PLC processing . Can work as FSR in a bank or investment company. The other most important requrement is that one has to be from sales background and having good experience in sales as well as customer care. In a branch there are about 2-3 FSR's and their is stiff competition at the time of hiring. Most of the people first land up job as CSR in a branch and then do CSC to apply for FSR. I dont think that without a sales and service experience, doing CSC would be of much use. It costs more than $1200. I did my CSC last year and am working as FSR in a bank and have got more than 8 years experience in sales and service. My interview questions were all of sales and service. Go to glassdoor.com and see questions of interview for FSR. It would be difficult to get a job as FSR even after doing CSC if someone is having no or little sales previous experience. In a bank working as FSR means sell, sell and sell.

Thanks for the input explorer!

What if she wants to work at the back office like assisting the adviser, loan processor, or jobs that are not connected to selling/meeting clients.. Does She need to take the course also?

No course is required to get job in back office. These are mostly got through the placement agencies, and are mostly on contract.
