Me and my family (wife and 3 small kids) are very excited but we are in a dilemma on what date should be best to head to Calgary where we plan on living in Canada. I'm looking at the following options:
- Since kids finish school here in Guatemala on October we were planning on them finishing and heading over to Canada early to mid November. I was thinking about maybe going a few weeks before the rest of the family to find a place to live, open bank account, look for schools purchase winter clothes, maybe purchase a vehicle etc so when the kids and wife get there we'll be a little more settled. Talking to people who know more about Canada than I do they've told me the problem with these scenario is that I'll be looking for a job from November to January when the job market is pretty weak and it'll be very hard to find a job (spending my savings while at it). Because of these I'll just be paying rent and all monthly expenses, while with 3 kids and very cold weather. Its almost like I will be on an long expensive vacation waiting for maybe February to find a better chance at finding a job (I graduated in marketing by the way and I've been working the last 10 years in that area).
- I don't know if its possible but could I enter Canada anytime before November, stay a couple of weeks and then go back to Guatemala and wait till maybe February (or maybe march so cold weather will soon go in a couple of months) to go with the whole family to Canada? The reason to do this I guess would be to go on a time when I would have a better opportunity to find a job and not spend much of my savings. Do you think this would be a better option than the first option? From what you guys know of Canada is this a good alternative?
- Go mid September and look for a job while waiting for the kids and wife to get there early November. What worries me about this option is that maybe I have September and October to find a job and won't know how likely it is. If I don't find it then I would get stuck in even a worse situation since I already used a bit of savings before my family gets there and naturally would have been away from them for almost 2 month which is not what I want. Still if I find a before the family gets there it would have been worth it.
