Hi,

I entered Canada last week as a visitor with dual intent and the officer issued me a visitor record which lasts 4 months. I have a few questions about it:
1. The officer said I MUST leave at the end of the 4 months. But can I apply for an extension in a couple of months and remain in Canada longer than 4 months on maintained status?
2. Now there is the possibility to apply for OWP also for people who applied outland. Similarly to above, am I correct that if I apply for the OWP then I can stay in Canada more than 4 months on implied status until I get the OWP? Reason I am asking is that the officer said I MUST leave by the end of the visitor record.
3. The officer said that this visitor record is subject to the PR sponsorship ongoing and said that if the application gets rejected before the 4 months, I need to leave as soon as it gets rejected. Is it correct?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No, UNLESS that language appears on the VR itself. Being rejected for a spousal sponsorship does not, in and of itself, make you inadmissible to Canada.

2. You will only have implied status if your OWP has received AOR before the visitor record expires.

How long does it take to receive AOR for OWP?

Regarding the extension of the visitor status, they say I should apply at least 30 days before the expiration of my status, but can I actually apply only 1 week before?

Yes, but if any glitch or other problem and the applicant ends up out of status, it's your problem.

Probably less of 9f an issue now with online apps than in the postal days, bit same basic principle.

Thanks.

At what time of the spousal sponsorship process could I be on maintained status? Let's say I get AiP or CoPR before the expiration of my visitor record, can I just stay in Canada on maintained status until I get the PR?

Thanks.

Submitting the OWP gives you maintained status. IRCC has to recieve the OWP before the expiration of your visitor record.

May I ask what country you are from? Do you know why you were not granted the full 6 months?

How long does it take for IRCC to receive my OWP application? Is it online nowadays?

It's online. But you need to make sure the application is complete of course. If the OWP is returned / rejected for any reason, then you would lose maintained status.

@HTS_QC , I'm second to the question above. Could you share any thoughts as to why your stay was restricted by two months? Any concerns mentioned by the officer?

@ERCAN

I had a return flight in 4 months from date of entry. And she also said that they don't normally give visitor records longer than 2 months so I was an exception apparently.

I guess partly the question then is why you were given a visitor record and not just the regular form of entry
