Hey everyone, new to the forum. I signed up because I am a little confused by what I should put in my "application to sponsor". I am a Canadian citizen by birth, and my wife (Russian) and I are hoping to apply for her permanent residency in the new year. We have just started gathering all the documents. She is an English teacher in Russia, and I am a graduate student. We met in Russia while I was studying there.
Currently I am in the US to finish my studies and I will be here until December and then I will return to Canada for the holidays. From January until April I will be in Russia for an unpaid internship (on a student visa) after which I hope to travel with my wife a bit around Europe, and then return to Canada to find work. I still have the same primary address in Canada (my parents home) as I've had for the last several years, and I have never changed it. I rent an apartment here in the US, but I never registered it as my permanent address. Other than the occasional amazon delivery, I don't think I've ever entered it anywhere. I did the same, and plan on doing the same again in Russia and keeping my Canadian address.
Anyways, my questions: when I get to the "are you a Canadian citizen living exclusively outside of Canada?" question, do I put "yes"? What exactly counts as "exclusively outside of Canada"?
Similarly, when it says "Do you reside in Canada and in no other country?" I am unclear as to what to put. My wife and I will be in Russia at the time of the application, so I am assuming I should say "no" but I still technically (and always have) reside in Canada and I don't hold residency in Russia or the US.
To complicate things, my wife had her visitor visa rejected over the summer. We applied for her to come from June 15 until July 2, to visit my family and attend a friends wedding. It was rejected on the basis of "purpose of visit" despite us showing her ownership of an apartment in Russia, and that I was going to be going to Russia with her after the friends wedding.
Any other tips and advice are always more than welcome.
Thank you
