1. Do I need to include passport stamped pages in my PR renewal application?

2. A PR is eligible to apply for renewal 9 months prior to card expiration. If I am departing before I hit my 9 month mark, how do I enter Canada when I return since the PR card will have been sent to my residence in Canada?

3. Is my new PR status expired 5 years after the date that I applied to renew my card? If not when is it counted from?

4. Does the 5 year period begins from the date of my renewal application?

5. My PR is expiring in June 2017 which is one year from now. I have fulfilled my 730 days of residing in Canada for this period. If I leave Canada now and renew my PR beginning June 2017, does that mean I can be gone from Canada for a total of 4 years?

6. Will a PR person remain a PR if he/she accompanies a citizen abroad for over 3 years? If so is the PR status remains for that person or will they be classified as something else?

7. What kind of proof do I need to prove that I accompanied a citizen living abroad, if I am allowed to stay abroad for over 3 years?

8. If PR status expires, can I be sponsored in the exact same way as I was the first time or are there different procedures for second timers?

1. You need to include copies of all pages (whether stamped or blank) for all passports (whether valid or expired) you held in last 5 years.

2. It is not mandatory to renew PR card 9 months before expiration. It is entirely upto you to decide whether to renew or not and when (even after the PR card has expired). You can enter Canada using PR card even if PR card is valid only till the day you actually return to Canada. If you are without PR card on return to Canada ideally you should apply for and get PRTD for re-entering into Canada. Or you can enter at any land border via US (if you have US VISA) using your COPR and Passport.

3. PR status has nothing to do with PR card expiry. Both are completely different. Your first PR card will be valid for 5 years + few months from the date of your landing. Any subsequent PR card will be valid from when IRCC issues it to you for next five years.

4. The five year period for renewed PR card begins from the date when IRCC issues it. The same is mentioned on the PR card.

5. Please note that for meeting Residency Obligation to maintain PR status, PR card expiry date does not matter. They will count last 5 years (1825 days) starting from the date of landing. If your date of landing is beyond this 5 years period they will count last 5 years only. Simple rule is that to meet RO you should not be outside Canada for more than 1094 days in last 1825 days from the date you apply for renewal of PR card. Also it is not recommended to cut it too close.

6. Yes if a PR card holder accompanies a Canadian citizen outside Canada he is in compliance with RO and will remain a PR. Though I am not sure if it only applies if the Citizen you are accompanying is your spouse.

7. I dont have exact information. May be others can help.

8. If PR status has been revoked then the person can re-apply or can get sponsored under the programs he/she is eligible for and available at the time of re-applying.

It must be a Canadian citizen spouse/common-law partner, or parent if you're a minor.

Situation 1. Accompanying a Canadian citizen outside Canada

You may count each day that you accompanied a Canadian citizen outside Canada provided that the person you accompanied is your spouse, common-law partner or parent (if you are a child under 19 years of age).
