Questions about husband working in Canada

Originally, we were planning on applying this past January but our plans changed and hope to apply January 2015. I am a Canadian citizen, born in Ontario, but have been living in the US as a PR since 2011. In the US I was given a temporary work permit while my PR application was processed. Are there any ways that my husband who is an American citizen can work in Canada while his PR application is processed? Should we apply from the US or from within Canada? Thanks in advance.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Not likely, unless he finds an employer that is willing to `jump through hoops' (meaning the LMIA process) to hire him.

An OWP (Open Work Permit) is available to a person that is already in Canada and submits an Inland application, but that is NOT recommended in your case.

1. The Inland application takes substantially longer to process (~ 2 years, compared to ~ 6 months for an Outland application [for most Americans with a straightforward application]).

2. The OWP wouldn't be issued until the applicant has reached stage 1 (of 2) approval, which is currently ~ 15 months!

You can apply now (Outland application), since you are a Canadian citizen. If you were only a Canadian PR, you would need to be in Canada to sponsor your husband.

The cost is $1040:

$75- your fee for sponsor assessment

$475- His fee for the application

$490 His fee for RPRF (Right of Permanent Resident)

Good luck!

Oh thank you so much! This makes me feel so much better. I read on the CIC website some obscenely long processing times. We have a daughter who was born in the US so I'm assuming we need to also apply for her certificate of citizenship before we apply for his PR visa?
