Hello all!

I have some questions regarding to filling the Personal history session in Form 5669E.

1. I graduated on 2011 and has worked for one year since then. From the beginning of this year I quit my job and I'm taking 2 courses in university as a part time special student. I don't pursue any degree, just taking courses that would be helpful for my future career. So my "Activity" is studying. But my current "Status in country" is on working permit. Will this cause issue? I remembered that studying for less than 6 months doesn't require a study permit. Am I right?

2. During my university time, I had one year of absence because I was withdrawn from faculty due to low GPA. After it I was readmitted and successfully finished my degree. This was shown on my transcript as well. During that time, I didn't take course from other school but just waited for one year. So for that one year time period, what is a reasonable "Activity"? What about "travelling" ? It's still legal, I guess. But is there any better description that fits my situation?

3. A trivial question: Under Education session of this form, I have to give full details of secondary education (I guess it means high school). I need to fill " Type of certificate or diploma issued" for this. What should I write? "High School Diploma" or "N/A"?

Please do share your opinion and advice. Much appreciated!!!

1. Just say 'Temporary resident', usually you are not allowed to attend school while at work permit, again this depends on the country. When questioned later you should be able to answer.

I would still get more answers from seniors.

2) Were you working? Volunteering? Put what you were really doing, even if it's just "Took a break from university and stayed home." Don't put traveling unless you have proof to back it up, i. e. passport stamps, hotel and plane receipts, pictures from the trip, etc.

3) Just put "Diploma." CIC will know what you mean.

As far as #1 goes, technically yes, you can study for less than six months, but CIC might not like it. You're supposed to be working (unless you were fired/laid off). This may look shady to them, so they will look over your application closely to see if you're lying about anything else. I hope you haven't shot yourself in the foot here.

Be honest on your application. Do not lie. Lying can get you banned.

Thank you siroccoon and amikety for very help answers!

Yes I'll be honest about my application in every possible way because I don't think I have anything illegal to cover up. I just want to clarify my somewhat unusual situations to officer so he/she won't return my application back to me which causes delays.

Further about my thought of the first two questions:

1. I'll have to provide a copy of my work permit anyway. Does it make a difference when I fill "Temporary resident" or "work permit" under "Status in Country" column? Also , do I need to provide an extra letter to explain that I only take 4 months of schooling and plan to look for next job after I finish it?

2. Answer from amikety reminds me that instead of saying "Took a break from university and stayed home", I could write "study photography" in that year absent of schooling. But I'm still uncertain about the fact that I took the course from a school in US. It's like a remote or online course that I can study at home and don't need to attend the class. I just had to read and watch the educational material they sent to me and write some quizzes online. What's the policy about this? Will the officer dislike this fact when seeing it? Is there any limitation of the school that I can attend under study permit? Since on new CEC document checklist, I don't need to send my transcript anymore. Do I need to write this in details on a separate letter to explain why I took one year off from school, possibly with some proof of course registration?

Please share your opinion with me.

Again, thank siroccoon and amikety, you guys rock!

1) You're a Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW)

2) I'm in somewhat of a similar situation. I'm inside Canada as a visitor & a US citizen. I'm taking onlines classes with a US university. I actually called the Call Centre and the agent told me online classes do NOT require a study permit because you can be anywhere in the world to take them. Furthermore, it's a US school, not Canadian. You're not taking a spot away from a Canadian by attending a US school.

In my application, I wrote out the university name (so if the officer googles it, he will see it's a US school). I also wrote "online" in activities. "Took classes online."

I didn't write up anything special or highlight it. Every now and then, I do worry just a tiny bit the VO will misread it or decide to "read into" it - but not much. If I'm asked to explain, I will tell them about my call to the Call Centre and explain while I was waiting for my PR visa, I decided to improve myself so I can be a "skilled" worker. I plan on specializing in an in-demand field. ;)

If it would make you more comfortable, send in a copy of the registration showing a US address for the school.

Thanks amikety, that's very clear explanation.

I've gathered almost every required document. Just one more question.

In that Education part of Background form, should I write my time in university in two rows entries to reflect the fact that I have one year of absence? Or just one row indicating the start time and graduation time and ignore the time gap?

Thanks a lot for the help ;D

I summed mine up by jobs or address. If I changed either, I wrote a new line.

Hi, amikety,

I think you're talking about Personal History or addresses sections instead of Education details section.

In Education, I only need to list secondary and post secondary schools I have taken. My concern is, because I have one year of absence, should I write my university education in two rows with different time periods, or one row?

For example, if in 2 rows, it'll be

From To College Degree issued
2009 2011 my college bachelor
2005 2008 my college N/A

If in 1 row, it's like this

From To College Degree issued
2005 2011 my college bachelor

What's your thought about this?

Thanks!

I would write two different columns so it matches your personal activity section.
