Questions about COPR/TimetoLand

Hi, we just got DM June 2nd and we are trying to plan ahead for things, but we are a bit confused/have questions still...

We know that DM can be a yes or a no, but we have had no contact with CIC at all regarding anything, we practically went from 'we got your application in December to DM June 2nd" is there anything they should have contacted us for an interview or anything? Would they do that before DMing someone? Or do you get a request for interview in the mail/additional information needed. We have had only 1 email saying yes to SA. Nothing else. We are just leery and scared that things went too smoothly too fast to be true. LOL.

So if we get COPR in the mail, lets say July 1st, when will my required time to land time frame be? I did my physical back in October 2014, would they say you must land by my physical's date? Is there anything they would request for us to send in, them send back to us? We are from visa exempt country.

It is 99.99% likely to be a "yes". They would not deny you without an interview or additional contact. The only thing that is slightly different in your case is that they did not ask you for a scanned copy of your passport. But there have been many others who went straight from "Application Received" to "Decision Made" without PPR so it is not that unique.

Your COPR usually expires roughly one year from your Medical date. So your COPR expiry will probably be October 2015.

We included in the application scans of our passports anyways lol. (including our visas/stamps from traveling as proof of our storyline...) Maybe that's why no request for passport, beat them to it!

Now just another waiting game to see what comes in the mail.

Sometimes they ask for the passport scan near the end of the process to see if the passport changed since when the application was sent in. Most common if the applicant is female and she applied with a passport with her maiden name. What happens sometimes is that she then renews her passport to reflect the her name change (if there was a name change) while the application is being processed. CIC would double-check with PPR to see if anything changed. But not always.

You go from Application Received to IP or DM, and then some days later COPR shows up in your mailbox. Now we just have to wait and hope that there are no error's on the COPR.. Good luck!

Where is the mailing address where your COPR was being sent to? I am trying to gauge how long mine may take. (I noticed the DM on June 5 but I am not sure if it went to DM that day or earlier since I wasn't checking my status very often.)

Your COPR will be sent to whatever mailing address is indicated for the principle applicant.. In our case my wife's mailing address is my address in Canada, so it will/should be sent here 8)

Just went to the mailbox and low and behold my wife's COPR was there.. Only 8 days after online status changed to DM! No mistakes on the COPR at all, so I guess we are almost done! Whew! 8)

Congratulations on your DM! I got DM too and PPR on May 26th and sending in my passport tomorrow after trying to figure out how to get a shipping label from Canada post. Anyhow I noticed you already got COPR. I have not yet recieved mine. Did you contact them or how does this work?

No we didn't contact them at all.. Our status went to DM and then 8 days later COPR showed up in the mail.. Not sure how the timeline works for people who need to send in their passports etc. We are visa exempt so no passport request just COPR in the mail..

Since I was looking here, it seems that a couple of you are from the USA. They don't sent a PPR just so you know. You'll just get CoPR in the mail. It took me about a week after seeing DM to get mine. Mine was dated about 5 days before then though.

PPR (scanned copy) was pretty standard about 2 years ago when I sponsored my wife. Especially if you were female and applied with a passport that used your maiden name while submitting a marriage certificate that stated you changed your name (which applied to my wife). Another instance is if you used a passport with an expiry date of less than a year. CIC assumes that your passport may have been updated in the meantime

But looks like they streamlined things a bit more and request PPR only if really needed.

Congrats! 8) Now just make sure all the info is correct on it, passport #, names, address, date of births etc etc and you're good to go.. You can see the valid to date also and now you know how much time you have to land, yay!
