Questions about AOR?

Hi everyone,

I got a few questions about the AOR that my sponsor received. My partner(the sponsor) received an email from IRCC. It says:

UCI number: xxxxxxxxxx
Application number: Fxxxxxxxxx

Dear (My sponsor's name),

This confirms that your application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2024/05/29 on behalf of the following member(s): (My name- principal applicant)

My questions are:

1. Is this letter an AOR?

2. If it is, can I use this letter to apply for a SOWP? Or will I receive an AOR send to me (the principal applicant), and I need to use my AOR to apply? I saw this on the IRCC website, which caused my confusion:
  • included in an application for permanent residence, and have an acknowledgement of receipt (AOR)letter confirming that your permanent residence application is being processed
    • The AOR must be for your permanent resident application. You can’t use the AOR your sponsor received when they applied to sponsor you.
3. Is there a deadline to apply for an open work permit after receiving the AOR? My current visa expires in October, so I was thinking of applying for the SOWP closer to that time.

Thank you in advance.

1. yes
2. AOR is always to the name of the sponsor. Unless they changed something.... the red part puzzles me a bit... perhaps they meant the acknowledgement of the submission. Bad wording.
3. your status is the deadline. Visa not equal Status. You get your status when entering Canada. It's either 6 months or whatever CBSA officer stamped into your passport or visitor record. You must apply before this status expires. Visa expiry date has nothing to do with it.

The wording from IRCC website is very strange, I read it multiple times and still doesn't make sense to me.
I have a work permit, I assume the expire date on my permit is the deadline then.
Thank you for your help :)
