Hello Canadians/Soon-to-be-Canadians,
I am gathering documents in order to file an application for citizenship for my whole family including my 6-year-old daughter. Reading the instruction guide for minors, I am a little confused about what pieces of identification to submit for her.
Please see Step1: Gather documents, below:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-0003-application-canadian-citizenship-minors-under-18-years.html#CIT0003E4
At that step, point#1 mentions passports in last 5 years. It is understood that a valid passport is already a valid photo ID. And, point#3 mentions a birth certificate, which, again, is a valid ID.
Kindly share your experience. Thanks.

- Then why does point#2 separately mention about the requirement of providing two pieces of the child’s personal identification, one of which must be a photo ID, giving examples such as school record, health insurance card, etc?
- Has anyone successfully completed an application for their child by submitting only photocopies of a passport and birth certificate, without having to provide any additional ID?
Kindly share your experience. Thanks.
