I didn't send police certificates along with my application. My sponsorship is approved and the application has been forwarded to visa office in New Delhi. I received the police certificates after i filed my application. I have not sent the police certificates yet since i was waiting for communication from visa office. It has been more than 3 months after i received my police certificates. I would like to know whether they are valid or do i have to get new certificates. In which of the documents do they mention about 3 months validity. Please help me in clarifying this.

Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and everyone in your family who is 18 years of age or over need to obtain a police certificate. You must obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application.

If the original certificate is neither in English nor in French, submit both the certificate and the original copy of a translation prepared by an accredited translator with your application.
That's from the CIC website. The language is a little bit confusing. Your police certificate was issued less than three months before your application was submitted, but it's more than three months old now. I'd call the call centre on this one. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.asp

Call Centre telephone number: 1-888-242‑2100

Automated telephone service (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week)
If you have a touch-tone telephone, you can listen to prerecorded information about CIC programs, order application kits, and check the status of your application.
Call Centre agents - Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., your local time, except for statutory holidays.
You must choose one of the first five recorded options before you can speak to an agent.

Good luck! I tried to call several times today (I have my own questions about completing my medical, getting my FBI/police certificate, and paying the RPRF), and they were unable to connect me to an agent due to "high call volume". I've read that it's easier to get through first thing in the morning.

I guess I did the opposite of "jinxing" myself. When I called CIC again, I was able to get through to a representative by phone. I asked my questions, and then I asked her about your police certificate issue. She said if it is older than three months, even if it was issued after you submitted your application, it is no longer valid. You will need to request another.

She was a little bit confusing. I didn't do my medical or police certificate with my application. I asked if I could go ahead and do that now, instead of waiting for CIC to request them from me, so that I wouldn't cause any unnecessary delays in processing. She advised me to wait until CIC requested the documents. However, she said that waiting for me to send them could cause additional delays. She said, "I can only advise you to wait until the documents are requested. However, I know that some people have sent them in before the request. You can certainly do that." So...I don't really know whether you should wait for the request or just get another certificate and send it along.

She did confirm that I should send the documents to the same office where I sent my original application (Vegreville, for me).

Hope that helps!

You should really have read the instructions. No medical, no Police Certificates. Hopefully Vegreville will marry up them when you send them. There is a good chance they won't. Then there is an excellent chance that the application will returned as incomplete, and you start again.

I was told by a CIC agent today that they would request the documents from me later. No mention of returning the file. I'll just hope for the best.

And I did read the instructions. Over and over again. NO CLUE how I missed that. I was so confused I couldn't think straight before it was all said and done.

Thanks a lot for checking it out for me. I have also contacted my lawyer regarding this. They only advised me to hold to the police certificates until i get a request from visa office. Hope they were right or its going to be a pain to go through the same process again.
All the best !

Yes they will ask for the certificates and medical, wont return the complete package. But yes i guess it will add delay to the overall processing. All the best!

Thanks, and all the best to you! It's a stressful process. While I'm thankful Canada allows me to apply for PR, it's still an added complication on top of adjusting to a new life I've never considered. We all need some patience and luck!
