Question re: filling out 'extending your stay in Canada' form

We are just filling out an extension of stay form for my partner who holds both Australian & American citizenship. Ultimately he would like to stay in Canada as a pr but it was suggested we fill out the extension first to allow us more time to do this. He will have to get a job or at least bring his small business here so he has some income.

The form asks how long he is applying to stay - can he say he is intending to apply for pr & wants to stay indefinitely? or just apply for another 6 months?

Does he tick off A - extension of stay & C 'application for work permit or is it better to apply for those separately?

Thanks for any help anyone may provide.

He can't apply for a work permit unless he has grounds to apply for a work permit, like a job offer and a positive labour market opinion. Just let him say he wants to stay for another 6 months.

Ok. :) Thanks for clearing that up Leon.
I have another question for you : If we don't get word back on the application before his visa expires, will he have to leave Canada?

Sorry if my questions are silly. :)

No, he can stay on implied status until you get an answer. If you get a no, he will have to leave.

Cool! Good to know since it almost seemed too simple. Does that also apply for his pr? Or does he have to continue to apply for 6 month extensions while his pr is in?

He had a small business in Australia but closed it as he'd intended to live in the USA (he's a citizen there as well). We're also trying to find info on weather he can restart his business online via Australia or the USA so he can generate some income to live off. He's not currently doing this as we wearn't sure about the legality of it. If you know anything about that sort of thing I'd also be greatful.

Glad you are on this list! :)

If the online business is officially based somewhere else, I don't think he would be breaking any law by running it from (his vacation in) Canada.

He would have to keep applying for extensions while you are waiting for PR. I think if you apply inland, you may apply for one extension with his inland application and that may be linked to his application and keep him legal while it's being processed but I am not sure about that. Let somebody answer this who applied inland and knows. For outland, he's not required to stay in Canada so if he wants to stay, you can keep applying for extensions.
