Hi, I'm from New Zealand and participated in the iec from 13/8/2013-7/8/2014. I'm trying to immigrate to Canada. My employer when I was there has offered me a managerial position (that I also held when I was there) and is in the process of getting an LMIA. Unfortunately my skilled work experience wasn't enough due to the 1 year restriction on New Zealand working holiday visas at the time to make me eligible for the FSWP. If the LMIA gets approved am I able to apply for a temporary work visa to go back and gain the extra work experience, and possibly try to gain permanent residence from there?

Thanks

Yes - if the LMIA is approved you will be able to apply for a work permit and return to Canada to try to qualify for one of Canada's immigration programs. Note that you do not need 1 year of Canadian experience to apply (i.e. this isn't mandatory). So if you have work experience from New Zealand - you may qualify to apply without returning to Canada to work.

So just to clarify. Even though I participated in the IEC, I can still get an approved LMIA and work on a temporary foreign worker visa?

Do they set how long it is valid for or does everyone just get a 4 year maximum?

1. Yes.

2. It depends on the duration of the work/job, maximum 4 years yes, but no, not everyone gets that.

Well we'd be looking to make it a permanent thing. Does the 1 year I already worked there count against the possible 4 years?

AFAIK, yes.

Here's the official word:

Hi everyone!
please if anyone knows:
tell me about air ticket--I'll need about 2 months, maybe earlier to get work permit,I'm outside of Canada---for which date I need to book ticket, how that goes?
'cause I know that they are charging when you want later to change date...
thank you!

Please don't "hijack" threads with unrelated questions, start your own.

(P.S. and when you do, could you please clarify your question? It doesn't make much sense ...)
