This might have been answered many times already but here I am again asking for this...

I always file my taxes ever since I started working here in Canada so I'm pretty sure I should check all the YES on taxes filed part...

On the required to file part got me confused...

Is it not a requirement to file tax every year? Why is there a YES and NO?

What should I put here?

sorry for this dumb question...

Thank you! :)

You are not required to file if you are not a tax-resident for that year.

You may also not have filed if the deadline to file has not yet passed.

The option "NO" is for someone like me. I became a PR in 2015, but my eligibility period starts in 2013. I never lived in Canada before becoming a PR (was sponsored by spouse) therefore for the years 2013 and 2014 I was not required to file taxes because I was not living in Canada at all. So although those 2 years fall into my eligibility period (2013-2018), I was not required to file any taxes.
