Question on tax for spouse

Hello!

My wife is with me in Canada on visitor visa. Our outland spousal application is in progress. So,

(1) Can I add her as a 'dependant' when filing tax in Canada?

(2) Can I claim for any refund mentioning that I have supported my wife financially for all the time she has been in Canada?

(3) Would claiming refund and showing spouse as a dependant cause any negative effect on file?

I had read rules while filing spousal application that:

Before signing the undertaking agreement, you must make sure the people you sponsor won’t need to ask the government for financial help. If they receive social assistance, you’ll have to pay back what they received during the time you are legally responsible for them.

So, I just to be sure that I am not misunderstanding any rules and breaking them. :)

You can add her on your tax report as a non-resident but you won't be allowed to claim any benefit neither as dependant or that you support her. The only benefit would be telling CRA that you are Married.

Until she is a permanent resident you won't be allowed to claim any benefit. And when she'll land in Canada you'll be allowed to claim the benefit only for the time after she got her PR status.
