Hello,
I have applied for PR via EE - FSW, inland. My LMIA based work permit expires in April 2016.
1. I have heard that we can apply for Bridging work permit if you have an AOR and not go through LMIA process again to extend your work permit. Is that right?
2. Typically how far ahead can we apply for the work permit extension?

1. That is right
2. See below rules:

To be eligible for a bridging WP, the following parameters must be met:

They have valid status on a WP that is due to expire within 4 months;
They are the principal applicant on an application for permanent residence under the FSWP, the CEC, the PNP or the FSTP;
They have received a positive eligibility assessment on their PR application under one of the Economic Class programs above; and

Just to confirm that AOR was in the system before EE when AOR was given by complete examination of an applicant's file.

In EE, AOR is issued almost immediately upon submission of application which is just a proof that CIC received your application.

So for express entry, one actually needs a Positive eligibility review passed stage OR 2nd AOR which is generally not sent by CIC.

Hence you have to have applied for PR and it should have been some time, after which you submit say a case specific inquiry for CIC to issue that Eligibility review passed and only THEN you are eligible for BOWP.

There have been cases though where work permit expiry was narrow and they have had submitted PR application a while ago, so they applied without having 2nd approval in hand and the wp officer checked to saw in their PR file that PE review was positive, hence they were granted WP.
