HI Friends,

I am applying for FSW-2014 . I am the principal applicant .I have my 10 th class/secondary school certificate with birth date and father's name.

Can i use this as birth certificate or do i need to get birth certificate with mothers name also from muncipal office

Please advice

Thanks

i read it somewhere on the forum that CIC is not validating 10th certificate as birth proof. Also if you attach your 10th certificate you have to add an affadavit as well which is unneccessary documentation and adding up piles of paper.

Go for a birth certificate to be on a safer side ... i am sure you don't want anything bad just because of a BC.

Hi C!C

Actually currenlty I am in USA so it takes time for me to get birth certificate from India. since CAP is fillign out quickly, I am thinking to attach afiidavit along with 10 th certificate. so mY question is where to get Affidavit form for birth certificate proof and how to notrize this.

The CIC does not want the original birth certificate i.e. at least initially. If you can get someone back home to apply and get a copy of your birth certificate and scan it to you, it would do. I too am in the US and I don't have my birth certificate physically. I simply had my certificate scanned in India, and printed it out. If there is an interview though you would need a physical copy. You can have it sent over in that case.

I have personally not done the affidavit. However the way I understand it is that you have to type up a letter on plain paper saying that in your country the 10 certificate is sufficient proof of date of birth. Take that to a notary, and sign it in front of them. Then the notary would sign it and put their stamp.

Generally banks have notaries. If you are in a large company like I do, there are some staff members who are also notaries. You need to ask around.

Just wanted to add, some people have got rejected solely because they did not submit the birth certificate. So take this seriously.

you should have a birth certificate.

but if you are unable to obtain a birth certificate (for example you were born in Godforsakenistan in the year 1973) - in a village where the mayor is a cow OR in one of the Arab countries - then of course you have no option but to present an affidavit from your parents that you are indeed their child - born such and such date/place.

If your parents are not alive - and affidavits from dead people are probably not accepted in Canada - then you may present your grade 10 certificate with your father's name on it in lieu of a birth certificate.

Yes acceptable, it is clearly mentioned in CIC page.

any kind of educational document is not considered as alternative to birth certificate. Birth certificate must be issued from authorized & relevant office of country.

you have to go to your local court and outside courts there are people who make you affadavit and notarize as well.

few lawyers have the authority to make an affadavit for their clients. It's not costly as well not more than Rs 100 including notoary.

also in order to obtain the birth certificate your presence is not required, your parents can go with hospital letter confirming you were in that hospital on such and such date.

Municipal authority takes not more than 7-10 days depending to issue you a birth certificate for an nominal fee of Rs 20 for one copy and Rs 50 for Two

i hope that answers all your questions. BEST OF LUCK :)
