Question in meeting conditions to get PGWP

Hi

I am an international student here in Canada landed in April 2019 for May intake. My university offered me only two courses in that term and told me that you will be considered as full time student in this term as minimum two courses are required in summer and three in all other terms to be considered as full time student. They also told me that I can even take one or two courses in my last term, will not affect my PGWP conditions.

But when today I was filing my income tax return from the tax form I received from my university (T2202) I found in column 21 they have written 2 months in Part time study (Summer) and 4 months in full time (Fall) as I took three courses in fall term.

Here my question is if my university provided me the wrong info as I mentioned in my first paragraph and whatsoever written on my T2202 form is right. How can I break my course load now in order to meet all the conditions to get PGWP.

Figures are as following below:-

(1) Program Duration: 2 Years

(2) Total courses to study: 14

Taken in Summer : 02
Taken in Fall : 03
Taken in Winter. : 04

Remaining : 05

I was also thinking to take one or two courses in this summer term and remaining 3 in coming fall to complete my program by December this year but now it seems little complicated.

Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated, thank you.

If the Summer term in your University is a regularly scheduled summer break, then if you take no courses in such a term - you are still eligible for PGWP.

If you are in a fast-track program that doesn’t have a summer break but you take the summer off, you'd no longer be eligible for a PGWP.
— IRCC (@CitImmCanada) November 15, 2017

The criteria for determining if a student is a full-time student in an University is not based on the number of courses taken, but on the credits earned. Most educational institutions will state on their websites the minimum credits required to be considered a full-time student. In most cases, anywhere between 9-15 credits are generally required per term.

You can check your official student status (full/ part-time) by downloading it from your student account ( college/ university website) or by downloading your unofficial transcript. Unfortunately, it is not something that you can manipulate after completion of the term. Based on the information you provided, you appear to meet full-time student criteria for Fall and Winter terms.

Contact the student services team of your institution and raise your query to them. Check with them if the course you have taken is eligible for PGWP. Also check if past students of your course managed to get their PGWP's.

As long as your University issues a letter at the end of the course that you completed all the course requirements, I think you can still get your PGWP.
Good luck!
