Hello! I'm a newbie on this "citizenship" thread.

I came here in Canada in 2009 and landed as PR last June 2014. The Citizenship calculator says that I can apply for my Citizenship August of 2016.

My son 13 years old who arrived last April 2014, , also landed as PR same time as me.

My question is, am I going to apply first then and then for him later on? is that the right process?

Thanks! :)

Hi,

The child should have at least one parent (includes adoptive parent) who is a Canadian citizen or who will become a citizen at the same time as the child (applying together as a family).

3 years residency requirement does not apply to children under 18.

Check the following link:

Hi another question :)

My friend landed as PR together with her 2 kids (8 and 5 years old) and her husband. She came here in Canada before them.

So she can apply for her kids because they are under 18. How about the husband then? Does he need to wait for his 1095 before applying? thank you!

Unfortunately that's the case under the current law but in your case, by the time you will qualify, a new law will be into force and it requires 4 years as a PERMANENT RESIDENT. You will NOT be eligible to apply before June 2018

Unfortunately, you won't be eligible to apply in 2016. Next year new rules of C24 will apply to you. So, 4 years out of 6 as a PR.
