Question arrival date temporary work

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago my application to work at a university in Canada was approved. I was planning to fly to Canada on the day my contract starts (my job offer has been revised to this date from an earlier date). Though I will not transfer between flights in the UK, I am living in West-Europe and I am worried Canada will close its borders because of the new variant of the coronavirus identified in the UK. Therefore I was wondering: What do you think is the chance Canada will close borders with other West-European countries? And am I allowed to arrive before the starting day of my job offer?

And if you have a valid TRV, you can travel anytime before the starting day of your job.
