Hello

Basically my question is in the title. I am in the process of sponsoring my husband. I'm completing the forms to sponsor him; he's here in Canada on a visitor status. He wants to get a work status asap. I was just wondering that if I apply for immigration now, how soon will he be able to start working? Will he have to apply separately for a work permit? Please note we are in Quebec and married for 5+ years.

2 solutions:
either he can try to find a company that will file an LMO for him and then he will be able to apply for a work permit
or
you can put the open work permit application together with the PR applications and he will get it when he gets approval in principle.

However, there may be another solution depending on where your husband is from and how old he is.
Do you mind sharing ?
Some countries (Australia, UK, France, Belgium etc.) have special visas (working-holiday, young professionals etc.)

Thanks for replying.

My husband's from Pakistan and he's 33 years old.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any alternative way then.

So as I said, if he can find a company that will file an LMO for him, then he can apply for a work permit with it.
If not, definitely apply for an open work permit with your PR application, and mention that this is to be processed with AIP.
Right now stage 1 takes 6 months

Yeah unless he get's a LMO then the quickest he could work is 6 months. If you apply inland and for a work permit at the same time.

Only if the sponsorship application is filed inland.

agreed =) forgot to mention this

Hi and thanks for all the replies :)

My husband has a job offer from a company to be an administrating officer which is LMO exempt. However, the wage for that offer is less than the one HRDC has suggested (the average pay scale is $18+ per hour) but he has an offer for $12 per hour. Would that make a problem for him to get the LMO exemption?

Administration office, with a salary barely above minimum wage? No way will HRSDC approve an LMO>
