Hi all,

I completed my exams on Apr 18, 2019 and started working on the 23rd of April 2019. I applied for PGWP on the 3rd of May. I had received my job offer before graduation. However, from the 23rd of April to May 3rd I only worked 20 hrs. Also, I was hired as an independent contractor.

now, I’ve submitted my CEC application and have received AoR. Will this affect my application?

thank you for the advice.

You were not allowed to work after completing your program but before applying for a PGWP. All you can do now is apologize and say you didn't know the rules. Usually if it's only a week or two it doesn't become a big issue.

Thanks for the response. The 20 hrs would mean I was part time, correct? Which is legal right?

No, you were not allowed to work any hours at all after completing your studies but before applying for your PGWP.

Ok, but I received confirmation of graduation on May 2nd. That would allow me to work part time till then right?
This is scary, I had no idea about this or I’ve had it all wrong. Is it worth it to send a web form now ? Or wait for a query from immigration?

Maybe. All you can do at this point is hope they don't give you a hard time about any illegal work.

If you received your confirmation of completion of studies/graduation on May 2, and applied for the PGWP on May 3, you don't need to worry about that work experience. But none of the work up to May 2 counts as experience.

I am more worried about your "independent contractor" status - how long did that last? You are aware that that (usually) does not count as employment either (self-employment), yes?

I agree. However, I did not count any of that work for the CEC experience requirement. I started working as a FT employee at a consulting firm 6 months after. I claimed the 1 year experience based on that job from Sept 23rd, 2019 to Sept 23rd of 2020.
