I have a question about tavelling to Canada in light of the wait for the AOR from Buffalo, or if they give the AOR by the time I plan to travel.

My fiance (living in Alberta) is wanting me to be there in Alberta over Christmas. It would be for a week which would include Christmas day.

My question is: Would this vacation have any effect on my pending application for permanent residency? Would flying to Alberta jeopardize my application? Would the border officials and the CIC frown on taking such a vacation and, in turn, send me home just because they can without any reason to? Should I even try to obtain reservations (airline tickets) for this vacation over Christmas?

Also, would I have to have a formal invitation (a letter perhaps) from my Fiance showing that I have been invited (by my Fiance) to be in Alberta during Christmas and would that help showing CIC border officials for my trip to Alberta if the border officials get uptight about a PR applicant travelling while the application is pending?

My fiance and I would like some definate answer to these questions because we need to know soon in order to obtain resevations for flights.

I await your reply and answers.

Thank you for your time.

You are allowed -- and even encouraged -- to visit Canada while your application is being processed. I came to Canada every two weeks during the two years it took to process my application. I don't know your nationality, but if you're American, there are really not going to be any problems (and the only problems I could imagine would be if you had to apply for a visa to visit Canada.) The border guards (in my experience) don't have immediate access to whether you've applied to stay in Canada. In any case, plan your trip, tell them you're a visitor (which is true) and enjoy your holidays.
