Question about the application packages

Hi all,

I'm kind of freaking out as I send my package off today and I think i may have screwed up. Basically, I went on the govt website and downloaded the spousal package they linked too. It didn't ask me to choose inland or outland. As far as I remember there was just the one package. I went back a few minutes ago to check on some stuff and I see that they have now changed the process since I downloaded my package a few months ago. Upon checking on the specifications I have until January 31st to use my old application package . Furthermore, some one just mentioned that I may have downloaded an out of date checklist as I included 9 photos as per the specifications of my application package. Is it possible that the govt would give links to an outdated package? Also, are there two different packages for Inland and Outland applications? I know I was required to send mine to Mississauga so does this indicate it was an Outland application?

I checked the forms that I filled out and they are definitely Outland as they are for spouse who lives outside of Canada which is great. However I am still a little bit worried based on the comment someone made about my photo requirements. Specifically the package I filled out required 9 photos from my spouse. Somebody replied to my comment that my checklist may be outdated as the last two checklist only require only two pictures. I double-checked my package and it most certainly says 9 photos. Whoever I'm still a little bit concerned that somehow I have downloaded and old or outdated package. The application package number was 3990 if I'm not mistaken. Have I made a mistake by using an old and outdated package?

it's ok you can use your old package until the end of this month so you are ok .you don't have to worry about that.

It was me that said that. By the sounds of it you did what I did, which is to download all the forms and complete them and gather the information and attachments over a period of months before finally being in a position to submit them. However, on the advice of others, I made a final check of the forms and especially the version numbers of each form back to the CIC website and sure enough, several had been updated in the interim. So I downloaded the latest versions and re-entered the information on them (it was then I spotted the checklist had reduced the number of photos etc. although the actual spec was the same). Even with the 'new' packs, I would strongly advise others in future doing this final check of the form versions and make sure you use the latest versions

I cannot find the link on the CIC website to the old forms now and I suspect they have removed it, so probably now not possible to check the form numbers??

Out of interest, on a slow day in the office, I checked one of my old forms VERY CAREFULLY against the new version on the CIC website and for the life of me I could not see any difference.

I have not heard of CIC rejecting an application because someone used recent, but slightly old versions of the forms. If worst comes to worst, they may request you complete a specific form again. So your call really.

1. It is unlikely that CIC will reject your application for using slightly out of date versions of the old pack (they will simply bin or return your excess photos) if you still want to submit using the old pack, but this must be in CPC Mississauga by 31st Jan 2017, so only a few days left

2. If you are going to stress about it, them why not simply switch to the new pack, you already have all the information, just in a different format. You can still send in your medical links if you got them up front.

Your call. I doubt you are in much 'danger' by having older versions of the old pack forms, but if you are still worried, switch to the new pack.

Point 18 - Photos - Supply two (2) recent photos...

The bottom of the first page states the date it was updated, 08-2016. From your previous posts, you started filling out the app in November, so I'm not quite sure how you would have manged to get hold of an old checklist.

1. IRCC does return apps for that exact reason. Sometimes the VO will request the updated forms but sometimes they will just return the app.

For UK applicants, I know for a fact that the number changed from 8 to 2 in the new June 2016 version of the checklist (IMM3901) - coz mine went in two days before the new version so I was using IMM3901 (01-2016) where it was 8 - they simply binned the extra photos I guess.
